56868 2002-06-24 01:07:00 I have just installed a cdr and i can send mp3 to it ok but when i try to send programs to it just puts a shortcut back to the program in my hard drive can anyone help NightFlyer (602)
56869 2002-06-24 01:25:00 If you are dragging and dropping, try holding down the Ctrl key while you do it.
You should see a "+" beside the icon as you move it, which indicates that you are indeed copying it, otherwise it thinks you are just moving it and wont allow it resulting in a shortcut.

Please specify your operating system, software and/or hardware when posting, as repliers have to second guess what is needed without it.

By this I mean older OS (not XP) usually dont allow drag and drop from windows explorer to a CDR, or are you using a CD writing program, if so which one as they differ. This makes meaningful help a little more difficult in your case.

56870 2002-06-24 01:54:00 When draging instead of left clicking and draging, Right click and drag. Then when you let go, you get the option of copying or shortcut. NathanTheKind (472)
56871 2002-06-26 04:55:00 I am using windows 98 and Direct CD 5.0. I tried holding the control key and made a copy of the program but when i sent it to the cd is sent a short cut to the copy NightFlyer (602)
56872 2002-06-26 22:09:00 What file are you actually copying? If you want to copy a file or entire folder you have to find the actual file or folder from the computer. If you are just copying the file from the start menu most things in the start menu are just shortcuts.

56873 2002-06-26 23:55:00 I recommend you try nero or cd creator 5 kiwibeat (304)
56874 2002-06-27 03:38:00 I am trying to send programs i have down loaded from the net like zonealarm. I save them to my documents and have installed them but would like to save them on a cd. It sends mp3 to the cd ok but not programs. NightFlyer (602)
56875 2002-06-27 04:35:00 I am a little puzzled, maybe its just the terminology you are using...

You keep referring to the fact that you are "sending" files to the CD, my memory of the CD writing program you are using is dim, as I have not used it for a long long time, but I always dragged the icon to the program window and dropped it, where it would add to others until it was burnt.

I wonder if you are right-clicking and using "send to"? instead. Perhaps this doesnt work with registered programs?

Please unconfuse me by explaining exactly what you are doing...

56876 2002-06-27 04:48:00 You are correct, godfather, you have to open the programme and then drop the programmes to be burnt into the window where they stack up before being burnt.

I used to use Direct CD before I installed Windows XP (fortunately XP has its own CDR software which works WAY better).

I also agree with Kiwibeat lower down when he suggests Nero or Easy CD.

56877 2002-06-27 04:56:00 Unless u r using the likes of Nero InCD or adaptec's version of it, which would format a re-writable to the UDF Format, then using a regular CD-R you'll need to open Adaptec CD-Creator or my one and only Fav: Nero 5.5.*.* and use that to make a Data CD. Then, using the inbuilt explorer window in the program, drag the files across like that.
If you're using Nero - InCD, then select the files u wanna send across in windows explorer and right-click and select "Send-to - Nero In-CD Drive"
Hope this helps
