57440 2002-06-26 06:35:00 Hello and so sorry for the long rant (win98se)

I have I have just spent $3000 + on a new system . Gigabyte 7vrxp m/b,amd 2000+cpu,512 ram, 40 gig h/d for future xp,btcbce40121 cd r/w,Gainward ti4200 graphics .

On bringing my system home it said windows did not shut down properly did a scan etc started in safe mode,
then normal a few resets and finally got going .
The same thing happened next day so the shop did a reformat of c(my original drive) and reinstall . Got it home same problem went back again same problems .
Now 10 days later same thing .

I have noticed that system info log only shows 511 ram not 512,scan log shows

This is what appears after all the start up hogwash

""There is a problem with your display settings, the adaptor type is incorrect,or the current settings do not work with your hardware . ""

This is what has always happened except sometimes I let it start in safe mode . I now move the mouse and get funny colours on the screen . Now I do a reset get the scan disk message due to resetting and lo all back to normal even the display settings are correct .
The first time I got to the middle of an email to you the computer froze .

57441 2002-06-26 07:31:00 Under warranty - take it back. If it were a toaster would you accept them tinkering with it - twice - or would you demand a replacement? Heather P (163)

megramps,

Take it back... demand that they either fix it, or give you a full refund (including cost of travel to bring it back all the time - that's a fair request) and go somewhere else... you should definitely not be experiencing problems like that from a new system, especially for the price you paid.

57443 2002-06-26 08:36:00 it could be a bad hard drive.........
it could be 100 other things........

take it back and ask for full new system or cash back.

BTW where did you get it?

did they update windows? and it also may need a vcache tweak.

the hardware sounds good but if they can't sort it out go eslewhere.

57445 2002-06-26 09:14:00 Yes tweak' e a complete reinstall.
Thank you all for your replies, but I find it a bit embarrasing as I did ask to keep my existing system,I did state I did not want xp loaded as I wanted to wait for the patches. xp had been started then stopped as the new drive had been formatted in ntfs and part of c drive from memory had a small ntfs partition so it is looking to me if that is the problem, this would of dissapeared on the format would it not? would the scan at shut down not be able to see this section?.I am not all that computer literate.

Thanks again fo the replies

57446 2002-06-26 09:31:00 Bit of a long shot but it may pay to check the hard-drive settings in the CMOS setup are correct.

I recall overcoming a similar problem by selecting the correct hard-drive.

Cheers

not quite what i ment. just because they did a complete install does not always mean that they applied all the bug fixes and patches. run windows update and see what it says.
