| 57295 | 2002-06-26 00:08:00 | Hi all, I hate that name Yaha already. So far I've cleaned 3 puters and have about another 4 people ringing me wanting my help. Anyway a word of warning to all. If you do find an infected system please make sure you do the registry edit first before scanning and killing with your reinstalled Anti Virus or you will find your .exe commands no longer work. One person has found this the hard way and I'm having a sod of a time trying to fix things for her. She had AVG and now everytime we try to acess various bits we get the resident sheild warning appear and this is even after using ctrl alt delete on the AVG. We are unable to uninstall the avg to get past the prob or bypass the damn thing through normal means. Regedit is no longer available either. Does anyone have any ideas or knowledge on how to fix this prob before I travel down and reformat her system?? The difficult part here is trying to run her through things over the phone but I have reached the end of my limited knowledge and nearly patience also. One of the characteristics of Yaha is that is disables the Anti virus and also firewalls and symantec have no removal tool as of yet. Please Help | dipstick01 (445) | ||
| 57296 | 2002-06-27 09:06:00 | Hi dipstick: I got infected with Yaha last week....... I was lucky with it, as I had'nt clicked the install box (to download the screensaver) as it looked mighty suspicious....... I managed to get rid of my variant by disabling system restore and clearing out all temp files....... Have you followed the detailed instructions on the Symantec site? |

| 57297 | 2002-06-27 09:10:00 | I followed the instructions found on symatec today, and got rid of the dreaded virus, and yes, it is a ****. I had to regedit in dos mode to get into the registry as what it tells you on the site. Easy instructions, must be, I followed them, but doesn't tell you how to get the registry back to how it was. | supergran (108) | ||
| 57298 | 2002-06-27 15:38:00 | hi all, A quick update. I finally got rid of the Yaha virus off my friends puter by uninstalling AVG in safe mode and after some thought used the command windows instead of winnt when I followed the instructions from symantec. I got rid of the virus again when I remembered the system restore files and went back the next day and did it all over again :8} Anyway its all cleaned now and its on to the next ones. |
