57315 2002-06-25 22:59:00 ...and the boss is going through a family criisis and can't get her to pay for the annual sub so I thought I'd try grisoft's AVG. Is it OK? Bit nervous leaving the solid reputable Norton. Anyway tips/comments on AVG most welcome. mark c (247)
57316 2002-06-25 23:11:00 A lot of people here use AVG and are very happy with it.

There are also a number who swear by Nortons and say that AVG is not as good. But AVG will be better than nothing.

Are you aware that you can contine to download your NAV virus definitions manually for free? You will find them on the Symantec website.

57317 2002-06-25 23:12:00 Mark, it's always a good idea to run a query like this through the search first, just tried and came up with a lot. Just a tip, cheers. mark c (247)

Susan B, thanks a mill. I didn't know that, how can they keep getting an annual sub. off you then, or try to? I have found them obscure and difficult todeal with and all we wanted to do was send them a check. I know this is old news.

57321 2002-06-25 23:22:00 You can download the definitions manually for a time, and then NAV will lock you out of doing so until you purchase a new subscription. The thought behind this is that by the time your original subscription expires, a new version of NAV will be out and that you'll buy that off the shelf and install it instead, thus providing you with another 12 months.

There are of course sneaky ways of manually installing updates if you're really desperate but they're not always 100% successful.

57323 2002-06-26 00:14:00 AVG in my opinion is MUCH better than Norton... less bloated and less of a system hog... Definitely give it a go but make sure you uninstall Norton first!

Lo.

57324 2002-06-26 00:21:00 Thanks 2 all. Will uninstall Norton first as have heard heaps about AV programs reading each other as viruses. mark c (247)
