57735 2002-06-27 08:40:00 New to this, so some advise welcome.

Im going to try to download files from a Win3.1 PC onto WinXP PC using DCC (Direct Cable connection) Why, well its another phere Im trying to get experiance in.

Is there an easy way to remember which is Host & Guest PC?

In the above operating system, will it be like picking files off a Network? or will I have to resort to DOS commands.

Both PCs hace C drives etc, so how will I distinguish which is which?

What difference will I notice with Win95 to WinXP combination.

Anyone have a copy of Laplink, or other um, freeware software to complete this task.

Thanks....John

57736 2002-06-27 10:40:00 Laplink 6 will allow a Windows interface with XP.

Use Laplink 2000 - or what ever is the latest - on XP

57738 2002-06-28 06:51:00 It's a long time since I've looked at this, but I seem to remember that was fairly clear (in DOS 6 . 22) what was happening . See what the FM (Help) says . If you can't understand that, ask again about the bits you don't get .

You get experience by experimenting (make a junk directory on each machine, and play with expendable copies of files) . Asking for a kiddie script is not the way to learn . ;-)

Asking for "um, free" software here will not be encouraged . . . some people might respond in harsh terms . X-(

57739 2002-06-28 11:50:00 Should have read:
Laplink 6 will allow a Windows interface with Win 3x

Laplink 3, 4 and 5 are DOS versions without native mouse support.

Laplink versions greater than 6 will not install on Windows 3x
