57692 2002-06-27 06:26:00 Sometimes when i log into win2k as administrator i get:

Cannot communicate with machnm1.exe! (message)
and an OK button

57693 2002-06-27 07:40:00 I would hazard a guess that some program you have installed that is being launched at startup is the source of your problem. This file it wants appears to be associated with generating some sort of ID.

I suggest you disable any startup programs that are not Windows ones and see if you boot without the message. If you do boot fine enable one program at a time rebooting each time till it comes back. Once identified obtain the latest update/patch for the offending program.

The following links give some info on machnm1.exe as it relates to the software being disccused at each site. It may help you understand or it may be you have one of these programs installed and you will have found the culprit (scroll down to see info).

57695 2002-06-27 07:54:00 Its quite obscure what this file is actually doing. My take from what I read is that Microsoft recommend this file be used in certain circumstances in order to control expiry dates for a pieces of software added to your PC.

As such I assume in your case at some stage you have had a piece of software on your machine that required the file. You may have removed the software but a registry key may still be present wanting to load the machinm1.exe still. The removal of the software may have taken the file out but not the registry key referring to it.

One thing you can try is to search for this file on your PC. If it is there but not in your system32 folder move it to the system32 folder.
