57654 2002-06-27 04:34:00 Does anyone know if I can purchase computer component such as from a wholesaler or warehouse supplier?

I am looking at building my self a computer and would like to purchase at the best prices available. ( h/d,cpu,m/b,case,ram,v/card,etc....)

Thank you very much.

57655 2002-06-27 04:39:00 I have had experience with dealing directly with importers etc, and setting up accounts, yes you can but only if you are dealing in volume (typically 100 units of each in my case)

Otherwise I guess there wouldnt be retail outlets and wholesalers could simply increase their margins.

Warranty is another issue.

Most computer wholesalers deal with distributors/retailers only and so you can't buy from them directly unless you register.

It's not hard to register with a wholesaler. Most have a fairly simple form to fill out and may require references. Since they expect you to be a business, they may require some kind of evidence of this (though I wouldn't worry too much, there are a few out there who don't).

I know many people who have opened accounts with TechPacific and get relatively well priced hardware through them. Personally I'm convinced there are better deals available and it pays to shop around.

Personally I've found a little company in Auckland who do direct and parallel importing of computer equipment and components and so far they offer the best prices I've found.

<tries the URL thingy>

E-One computers (http://www.e-one.co.nz) is their name.

57657 2002-06-27 05:02:00 Well, I looked into it myself, and (In Auckland) from a place called Vivid Computers, for a 1GHZ Duron, it'll all up cost around $700-$900.
I'd like to know of a wholesaler or the like myself, just wanting cheap parts....

57658 2002-06-27 05:21:00 Your best bet is second hand components, or a second hand PC. www.trademe.co.nz is a good start for bits, or even ebay is good for lots of cheap gear since many wholesalers sell old stock through there. Declan (679)
57659 2002-06-27 06:11:00 unless you are a buisness, generally no. most wholesalers will either not deal with you or will sell to you at retail prices.

TechPacific is one of the harder accounts to get for small buisness. they simply refuse to deal with part timers.

e-one is not bad but their 'wholesale' price is not cheap unless its the parrallel import gear. however the drawback with parrallel gear is you may not get any warranty. someone posted a problem a while ago about a part that deid while under warranty and they got told to go deal with the manafacture. fancy dealing with taiwan?

remember - YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR (and make sure you DO get what you pay for ;-))

57660 2002-06-27 08:20:00 Thanks for that Tweak'e

I'd considered getting a TechPacific account for my company a while back, but in the end it was such a hassle I couldn't be bothered...

As for e-one - you're right - it is the parallel import stuff that's the better prices...but I thought they came from China :)

Anyway, personally I've never had problems with E-one's stuff and the one time I had an "almost problem" they were quite happy to sort it and even offered me a replacement part (I guess they got new stock at a better price or something)...I guess there's always a first time :)

57661 2002-06-27 08:46:00 the parrallel import stuff is ok...as long as you know it is parallel import.

i know people who have been stung because they bought something (eg printer) for normal price only to find it was parrallel import and they could not get a part for it (1 month out of warranty) and the nz agants didn't want to know seeing as they never sold it.

the catch is that it makes life very hard for those who back their work 100%.......after all would you buy the $2000 pc or the same spec $3000 one?

note- some of this parrallel import stock has the same retail price as the nonparralel WHOLESALE price. just remember you may have trouble trying to get parts or replacements.
