57587 2002-06-27 02:16:00 Over the past hour I have received a pop up message saying, "You (or a program) have requested information from KET1812NETIAN.COM. What connection do you wish to use?
Firstly I only have one connection. Secondly I did not make the request. And thirdly the only program running (apart from windows) was Outlook express.
I have done TWO full AV scans and no virus found.
Anyone got any ideas?
Jack.

57588 2002-06-27 02:20:00 Assuming that your virus definitions are all uptodate before you ran the scans, chances are somebody has pruned your email address from a list somewhere and is spoofing their address at the site you mentioned. ecko_nzed (652)
57589 2002-06-27 02:27:00 My virus definitions as up to date as at 9am this morning. My e-mail address is only a week old too. I changed ISP's a week ago.

57590 2002-06-27 02:31:00 Hi. It sounds like some software has installed itself on your system (spyware or the like, possibly from a download you did) and is trying to "phone home" by making you connect to their site. This could possibly result in you incurring international toll fees - just my theory anyway and worth checking. Or it may be a trojan.

I'd check what programs and processes are running invisibly and try to find the culprit - you don't give your operating system so can't advise what to check.

57592 2002-06-27 03:21:00 I've just done a google search and found netian which appears to be a korean home page. it sounds like somewhere along the line you have picked up spyware or similiar which is now trying to send you off to its home page. Have you got AdAware? If not I suggest you grab it from www.lavasoftusa.com and run to see what you have lurking dipstick01 (445)
57593 2002-06-27 03:48:00 Yes I am useing ad-aware. No Spyware. But I used to get plenty of Spam from Korea when I was with Paradise.

57594 2002-06-27 04:11:00 When you say pop up, were you at a website, when this popup accured?
Was it in anyway personalised? Did it come through an email?
Even if the answer is yes to any of these questions, chances are its a load of dingos kidneys, and should be treated as such.
Spammers are getting more and more annoying, and clever. It seems they will do anything to make thier ^#^#^ appear like something that is either from someone you know, or that it is something you MUST act upon.
