57759 2002-06-27 10:31:00 I am running XP with 256 RAM and a 1 gig processor. I use MS Media Player primarily for songs etc. Occasionally, when I stop a song, it locks up. When I try to close it, I get a program not responding message. I click on the end now button but nothing happens. Even the trusty cntl+alt+del doesn't bring up the task manager. I can't even shut down normally to try and clear it. I can reduce it and continue working but everything slows down considerably and it won't reopen. The only way to fix the problem is to hit the reset button. Any ideas as to the cause and or a solution. Craigb (688)

I think I have experienced that once or twice myself. Could you let us know what version of Media Player you're using? I upgraded to the latest version and it seemed to solve the problem and I know since XP was released there have been one or two patches for it.

I'm not sure if this will solve your problem, but it might give you a start anyway :)

The first Knowledgebase item (support.microsoft.com) deals with resizing the window (I wonder if shutting it down ties in with this).

The second Knowledgbase Item (support.microsoft.com) deals with a "stops responding" when you play large files.

57763 2002-07-08 01:44:00 I think I may have stumbled onto the problem. When playing music/video, keep the mouse pointer away from the slider (representing how far along the file you are), especially when it is coming to the end and double especially if it is an incomplete file. Sounds strange, but since I've been doing this (so far) I've had no problems (fingers crossed touch wood). Craigb (688)
