1305698 2012-10-08 06:30:00 I have gotten another virus ridden pc, it really cannot do anything its slow as and wont let me view log files or connect to the internet and will only work in safe mode. This is a little HP notebook that doesn't have a cd drive, so how do i get a copy of windows starter and re-install it? Slankydudl (16687)
1305699 2012-10-08 06:34:00 Remove its hard drive and scan it. Or remove the hdd and see if there's an ISO / image on one of its partitions. If there is, copy it then burn it. Or boot into safe mode / networking. If theres a virus scanner on it update it then do a full scan Speedy Gonzales (78)
1305700 2012-10-08 07:06:00 computer hasn't been setup for wired Ethernet (yes im in safe mode networking) and its all i currently have, when i right click on the lan device it gives me options but with no text and when i click on the one that should be properties it opens then closes instantly. Iv transferred spybot and its working away but its got an outdated version of avg installed so i cant be bothered with that . Slankydudl (16687)
1305701 2012-10-08 07:46:00 Being windows 7 Starter, if there's a recovery partition, there wont be a ISO, there will be WIM files and folders theres generally no installer as such like there was in XP. The easiest way is to get hold of a W7 DVD, turn it into a universal DVD or more to the point make a ISO create-windows-7-universal-iso-with-all-editions (www.mydigitallife.info), then load the Altered ISO onto via a Bootable USB drive. When booting from that drive you will then have the option to install Starter Edition using the COA on the bottom of the unit.

You cant legally (Public downloads ) download Starter edition ISO's.

1305702 2012-10-08 08:04:00 Forgot to mention, the starter will be X86, they wont be a X64Bit OS. wainuitech (129)
1305703 2012-10-08 08:32:00 okay thanks, i don't really wonna put home premium on it considering its just a little notebook.... you mean to say i can get windows 7 ultimate with a win7 home premium disc :banana Slankydudl (16687)
1305704 2012-10-08 08:44:00 you mean to say i can get windows 7 ultimate with a win7 home premium disc Yes and No. ;)

You could install Ultimate but you would need a Ultimate COA/Product key to activate it.

With a universal DVD, you can install what ever version you want, as they are all there. But to activate you need the Product key for the Version. So the Starter on the Universal DVD will only activate with the Starter COA, Home Pre - Home Pre COA, Professional - Professional COA etc.

1305705 2012-10-08 08:51:00 yes that's annoying, serial keys are a very secure means to safeguard data from people who don't wonna pay. Slankydudl (16687)
