1305592 2012-10-07 10:47:00 Looking for the current best bang for buck video card, Something similar in market position (performance and price) as the 560ti was last gen. Metla (12)
1305593 2012-10-07 18:35:00 660Ti / 7950 around the $550-$600 mark edit: actually 7870 @ $430-$450 wins on value and offers similar performance

7850 about $320-$350 is the next step down and at that price has no real competition, 660 is $100 more and 560Ti is still more expensive if you can get it and slower.

1305594 2012-10-07 20:02:00 basically all the amd 7xxx series gpus are good value at the moment
just a 7xxx series one that fits your budget

1305596 2012-10-08 00:06:00 7850 in its price range because it overclocks so damn well (I'm getting GTX 580 performance out of mine). Anything higher you're heading towards the 670 range. Remember the 8xxx series is rumored to be released sometime early next year (details are already out). This would obviously see further price drops in the 7xxx series.

Remember AMD got their GPU's out first (this year) so the cards don't really match up that well (when comparing to nVidia). E.g. you can't outright say that a 660ti is the direct competitor to the 7850, when it has the performance of a card slightly higher. All the price points are kinda ****ed up atm.

my normal answer is look at this chart and compare prices.

To clarify my original answer, I was not comparing a 660Ti to a 7850 but rather the 7950 and 7870 which perform in the same ballpark. Of the 3 the 7870 is the clear winner on price.

At a lower price/performance the 7850 wins, it's just the best you can get under $400 based on reviews and benchmarks.

I'm an Nvidia fan but based on bang for buck I'd go 7850 or 7870

Yeah I've gotta agree on that point. My 6870 was (is still?) *fantastic* value-for-money, and I agree that it looks like the 7850 is pretty much on the mark for "Good all around value-for-money" if you ask me :)

1305599 2012-10-08 04:12:00 I wasn't trying to say your were (if that's how it came across). I was trying to point out how none of the current gen-cards compete directly with the card you would expect it to. E.g. the 7970 has got nothing on the 680. icow (15313)
1305600 2012-10-08 06:56:00 Cheers for the info. I'm probably looking at the 660, from the benchmarks I was looking at it was only 1 or 2 fps slower then the 660ti, and considerably cheaper. I've been looking at using these guys for a new system. http://msy.com.au/ Beware the website. Metla (12)

Thanks for the warning. Two seconds was enough for me.
