2012-10-07 10:03:00 | I have an issue where my brother keeps downloading music via non-legit means, found 1.5gb of music that he has downloaded, I already have his pc running Open DNS for filtering but it does not seem to block or filter his music downloads.:mad: Can some one point me in the right direction to modify Open-DNS or another way to filter it? :pf1mobmini:

If THAT doesn't work then I'd look at censoring methods. How's he doing it? Torrent or websites? | The Error Guy (14052) | ||
2012-10-07 21:47:00 | @Chill: The next thing im buying is that TP-Link router for gargoyle, he does not have internet access on his phone. @Error: I tried that, did not work. Think he is just using websites. I have yet to find a torrent program on his pc.

2012-10-07 22:28:00 | You could bloc via extensions (.mp3 etc) and have a whitelist for Legitimate sources such as itunes.com spotify.com and so forth. Not sure what software would offer that level of control however. Try blocking youtube to MP3 converters. Dunno why but people use them to get music. Such a poor method, if MP3 encoding at low bitrates wasn't enough (most people use crappy MP3's) they grab youtube's audio which is far from decent. May I ask how old is the guy? Is it a case of "I dont wanna pay" or "The success of pulling it off" type thing. Usually determining why a person is doing things will help you find a solution. Usually I find blocking a preventative measure so they don't get into the habit. I'd work out why with him (if he is of a reasonable age to take it seriously) and explain the damages of piracy, not just to the industry but to the family (3 strikes, bad rep if caught) and things like that. If that doesn't work just find a method that blocks all form of piracy. Doesn't matter if it blocks a few useful websites/resources. Explain it will stay like that until he can prove he is trustworthy. If you can't find a reliable block system then take the internet. Same explanation. Until he can prove his trust there is no net. Simple.

2012-10-07 22:46:00 | Yeah in that case you've gotta find the website he's using and block that, coz there are Extensions for your normal desktop browser you can get that allow you to download MP3's of songs and things from social networks, as well as there being sites that simply offer the raw MP3s .... Have to block the URL, that's your only option. | Chilling_Silence (9) | |

2012-10-08 05:11:00 | blocking websites can work but its incredibly easy to get around if you have root access or with programs such as www.torproject.org | Slankydudl (16687) | |
