1280971 2012-06-10 13:17:00 Daughter's iPod Touch has a cracked screen, Dick Smith's warrenty doesn't cover it and they quoted over $200 to replace the screen. Anyone know of a place that can replace the screen for a lot less? xmojo1 (4630)
1280972 2012-06-10 15:10:00 Not really, since the screen's one of the most expensive parts of them.
Either use it cracked (get a screen cover or something) or pony up the dough to repair it here or send it overseas.

Good luck pushing that through for physical damage.

I agree, you have no show unless you can prove spontaneous internal combustion, or it cracked when you wer viewing a photo of your mothr-in-law.

Pony up for the repair and be done with it. Oversas repair will cost you shipping etc, you'll have to pay in advance, and there is nobody to complain to if it comes back with other faults, or isn't your phone.

1280976 2012-06-10 22:39:00 is it the just the digitizer glass or the lcd screen itself or both? its super easy to fix it yourself just buy the parts off trademe and look up a youtube video theres plenty of them out there , done it a few times for family members on ipod touches and iphones, cost me 50 bucks for replacement lcd and glass with home button etc if you live in auckland i can fix it for you free if you just buy the parts yourself headshot (16454)
1280977 2012-06-11 01:34:00 Assuming it was under warranty it's highly likely it's a 4th gen, 4th gen iTouch units have the Digitizer (glass) and LCD (screen) bonded together. If buying replacement parts make sure you buy a nice screen + digitizer preassembled (buying separately will just lead to problems)

I personally have never done a 4th gen, they are a wee bit more difficult compared to a 3rd/2nd gen unit since you have to heat the screen with a hairdryer/hot air gun to loosen the adhesive that holds the screen assembly onto the chassis. Ebay is generally cheaper than trademe for parts, but for a first time buyer it's a bit more difficult to get a quality part (you have to shop around a bit to find an quality/OEM part)

If it's a 3rd gen digitizer (glass rather than the LCD itself) I have a 2nd/3rd Gen digitizer spare atm. Comes untested, bought as a batch of 3x one worked, one didn't (and was replaced) so if you are interested let me know and I can send it to you. Alternatively you could find a PF1 member locally who would do it for you and I could send it there.

Also try Trademe services for repair agents, bear in mind these people (same as any DIYer) will not be covered by any apple warranty and may not use genuine parts. The reason I say this is I did a repair once on an iPhone 4 and the customer was not happy with the screen since it had a slightly warmer colour than the other. It was not noticeable under normal operation however when compared to another iphone in the dark it was :p they were happy with work but tried to get $20 off the price. Tight ass friends of friends I have :D

Good luck.

1280978 2012-06-11 01:53:00 There's a few places here that have parts. If you want to replace it yourself. The parts are pretty cheap Speedy Gonzales (78)
