1280941 2012-06-10 09:23:00 More to concern ourselves than hat wearing.

Husband was over in the delightful suburb of Avondale today, in the pleasant little Housing Corp community of crowded together rat boxes visiting with a friend.

While they all chatted outside, leaning up against husbands ute, other friendly neighbours hanging about with cups of tea a headhunter arrived at one of the nearby houses. An argument ensued with the lady of the house, abuse and punches started to fly, apparently over the child's birthday or some such.
Another guy comes out of this ladies house and more shouting and punching start.
The headhunter was winning at this point and briefly knocked the other guy.

He gets up and rushed over to my husbands ute and grabs the spade off the back.

This spade is kept sharpened.

He smacks the headhunter a few times with the flat of it, hits him on the arm with the sharp bit, causing a bit of a wound. At this point neighbours scatter in all directions, husbands friend runs one way, husband runs the other - into his friends place - the headhunter runs straight in after him and slams the door shut so hard he jammed it.

Husband is inside with headhunter, telling him to calm down, while spade guy rampages at the door, unable to get it open. Headhunter pauses for a drink of water and demands to know where the next exit is, husband directs him to the back door.

Headhunter goes out and attempts to climb over the back fence. Husband rings 111 while this is happening, but 111 call centre seem unable to know where Rata St is and some circular discussion takes place. Headhunter doesn't succeed in climbing fence and comes back in, causing husband to hurriedly hang up as he had been instructed to "not call the pigs".

Eventually headhunter gets the front door back open as spade guy had jumped in his car and driven a bit down the drive.
Spade guys sees this, jumps back out of his car and resumes chasing headhunter with the spade round husbands ute. Car meanwhile, has no handbrake on and continues the journey down the drive.

Spade guy takes a swing at headhunters head with the sharp end - fortunately missing - and puts a slash and dent into husbands ute bonnet.

Cops ring husband back, address finally established. More chasing, swinging, swearing. Woman originally in argument rescues car meanwhile.
Cops finally turn up and arrest both guys, take pictures of ute, spade, doors, cars etc.

Unfortunately, you need to be as specific as possible with suburbs etc provided (quite possibly were and just spoke to an idiot, but anyway), as there are at least four different Rata Streets in Auckland alone, as well as a few Rata Rd and Rata Pl etc. Presumably he wasn't calling from a Telecom landline, either?

There really are a lot of improvements to be made to the way such calls are handled, but a lot of the time (not necessarily in this case, though) the callers don't exactly make it easy... ;)

1280949 2012-06-10 12:37:00 West has some bad areas that includes some good suburbs but ones with pockets of state housing in them. Avondale and Ranui are known hotspots. But relative to places like Otara we cant complain. prefect (6291)

I'll second that notion.

Heck, there are even places in Te Atatu and Henderson that are very 'upmarket' as it were, and then two streets over there's quite the opposite...
