Why hate it? IPhones are good intuitive pieces of hardware that suit a specific market ie people who want good reliable technology straight out the box and have no desire to tweak it. It is fair to say it probably changed the world!

People don't moan when Sony release a slightly updated TV.

And no I've not got an iPhone or Mac only a 10 year old iPod, that is also a cracking piece of gear.

1280599 2012-06-08 23:04:00 From what I can see, there are a couple of problems with the so called 'leaked specs'. I doubt there will be a new charging port on this model. As the new iPad has just come out with the older one I can't see apple implementing it on the iPhone 5. And also, I don't think apple will have a bezzleless Iphone, as it would kill the market for the premium cases with the 'lids' that cover the screen when closed. Nick G (16709)
1280600 2012-06-08 23:20:00 When the 1st iPhone came out its fair to say it was bloody revolutionary, followed by the 3G and the 3GS which also brought a lot to the table. Their iPod touch line was also decent. Their iPods are THE most successful line of devices ever. I Liked them a lot.

THEN things went bad, they killed off the nano replacing it with the silly touch version, the 4/4S upgrade was less than significant and didn't build much at all upon previous versions. The screens are small, the phones a bricky and break like nothing I have ever seen. It seems that they have nothing to build upon any more and simply waste their time in a pathetic samsung/apple debate... I see there is another lawsuit floating around.

People buy iPhones for 2x main reasons. Because it's an iPhone and they don't know any different or because it looks nice (which is a legitimate reason to buy anything tbh)

So many people ask me around the place, I want a new phone boyfriend/parents gonna get me an iPhone... what do you think? Usually the reply is I think $1k is too much for a phone (I bought my galaxy 2nd hand an plan to do the same for any smartphone of that scale, it's gonna get scratched anyway. It's a phone not a baby) I also think you should consider what you will use it for and if you can afford the repairs when stumbling around at 1am you drop the shiny glass bugger.

Some people buy them but only because they don't know different. I don't try to talk people out of an iPhone, I only wish for them to see the other "side" as it were. Some are impressed. Others go with apple, end if the day, they end up using it. Not my problem.

1280601 2012-06-08 23:23:00 Yep the iFans will be out there salivating and holding all their hard earned money in their hands demanding that Apple takes it so they can have the latest fashion statement.. paulw (1826)
1280602 2012-06-08 23:26:00 I don't have any Apple products. I guess I could get more into tweaking but haven't, it's just not my style. I am the type that I use it for a specific job if that means play a game which is rare, maybe a demo, do a word or excel or powerpoint file. With the phone, read emails, send a text, make a call, view a webpage, schedule in an appt with the alarm reminder. To me it does the job, I don't have any more requirements.

My phone was under $400, the screen could be larger, it's a 3.2" Nokia running Symbian. But all the software and features are fine though. If I wanted a fun phone and style/image or perception is important, that is basically what companies sell on. The iPhone has that more than any other brand. Sure you have other phones pretty good but if you look at the whole market ....

If I didn't need the offline Nokia maps and if I was going to spend that much on a Lumia 800 or 900, the iPhone would be a good contender. I do travelling twice year so it's rather useful.

IMO then again the other phones are fashion statements too like the Samsungs. A $1,000 phone is not cheap and how freq the phones gets updated. It's a lifestyle thing I think. B/c if was less financially stable, many could do without it. I mean a phone that might be more than a laptop computer.
