1280456 2012-07-09 21:26:00 No problem here in Christchurch, they are turning the entire CBD into one giant carpark with excellent direct bus links to all suburbs.. :)

They had to have a big shake up to get on with it :)

Yes.
Some of us have tried not to but this is where the jobs are.

1280458 2012-07-09 22:25:00 The proposal (which is all that it is at present) is not significantly different to current prices . Many meters have a 90min limit, some are two hours and some are three, and I carry a swag of $1 & $2 coins in my car at all times . Pricing ranges from $4 . 00ph to $6 . 00ph, and privately owned or managed carparks charge what they like ($10 minimum in the new Owen Glenn building at the AK Uni, and the SkyCity charges are worse), so it gets very expensive if you stay several hours .

I have to park in the City for work reasons but fortunately I can pass on the costs, and if I am going to be on site for some time I ask the client to provide parking on site, they always have some reserved spaces for contractors . In reality though, availability of street parking in Auckland Central is so limited that it doesn't really matter what they charge, you are not likely to find a park anyway . :(

Cheers

1280459 2012-07-09 22:49:00 I often have to visit sites at both Downtown and Newmarket. I'm in the habit of (free) all day parking if necessary on Great South Road at a bus stop (either direction into / out of the city) at Magness Benrow, and then bus to where I'm going. Frequency is excellent being on a major feeder and I probably have to walk no more than 250m during the day. Easier than finding a car park, less time involved, and affordable as well ($6.50 total). I don't have any equipment to carry of course. :D WalOne (4202)
1280460 2012-07-09 22:58:00 Just avoid going to the CBD, it's a hopeless 'city'. Who wants to go there? bk T (215)

It's called voting with your feet. Might not make much sense, but if I want to see improvements to something I use the damn thing. (Public transport anyone? ;))

Me. :D

1280462 2012-07-10 01:03:00 Wellingtonians, me included, quite like our public transport particularly the buses .

If I want to go by bus to somewhere unfamiliar I work it out beforehand . Aucklanders don't . They 'guess' a bus then ask the driver . It holds things up . Every second person says 'does this bus go xxxx?'

When driving in Auckland I let the bus go first - and the driver waves! That's because it's unusual . Aucklanders don't have a culture of respect for buses . Their culture is that buses are for losers and anybody of any value surely would be driving a car . They see a long line of buses and blame the traffic congestion on them . . .

Dead right there squire, when I have to go there I park on the footpath and put my flashing amber lights on.
