1280446 2012-06-08 05:19:00 His train set is meant to go round CBD - so? How do you get there in the first place?

And herein lies the problem with the City Rail Link's perception

It is not a loop, it is a link designed to reduce capacity constraints at Britomart and put most of the CBD within walking distance of rail, and boost capacity on the entire network. It'll also allow for rail to the airport and the North Shore in the long term.

1280447 2012-06-08 05:25:00 Auckland is a car city, most proper Kiwi families have at least 2 cars. Lets be be brutaly honest here only ***** travel in trains and buses routinely.
You obviously haven't been to a city with an efficient Underground/light rail system as with them only ***** would drive a car.

1280448 2012-06-08 06:18:00 Get yourself a Martin Jet Pack. Cheaper than Len's train set and about as much practical use. CliveM (6007)

FTFY :)

1280450 2012-06-08 06:35:00 Exactly . Why would anyone want to come to the CBD, except to get drunk .
Queen St is continuously being torn up, at night its full of drunks .
Despite the council saying the want central Ak to be a vibrant, family friendly place, they do nothing to make the public want to go there .

Sure we can all take the bus . Then I can do the remaining 20min walk to work from the bus stop, in the pouring rain . I'll get to work soaked .
They are also talking about charging (taxing) employers who providing car parks for staff .
Ak is too spread out for a public transport system to ever work properly . Most dont work or live close to bus stops .

If they are really serious, sell all the council cars & council employee's can use public transport .
Force all the city Councillors to use public transport to get to work, see how much they like it .

I think it's ironic that the organisation who is in charge of keeping Auckland moving (focussing on public transport) owns and runs carparking buildings in the CBD .

And is apparently considering putting pay and display parking in at the ferry where I have been parking for free for the last ten years .

For not much more than I would pay for the pay and display parking plus my ferry each month (ferry services are subsidised by Auckland Transport), I could lease a carpark directly from Auckland Transport and drive to work (with all the flexibility that that provides) .

Which undermines their remit hugely .

These guys are as big a joke as the old ARC were .

Amalgamation of councils was a mistake . Did we learn from that . ? No, we implemented Supercity . Doh!

1280451 2012-06-08 06:36:00 I think that they are trying to make it RELATIVELY cheaper to go by public transport.

Fixed that for you Bobh...

By increasing fees for parking in town, it will SEEM like it is cheaper by public transport....

We didn't . The politicians did and we didn't get a say in it. Watch out Wellington.. It's certainly proving to be a cost plus exercize..

1280453 2012-07-09 13:11:00 Parking in Auckland City is a major issue for all people specially foreigners who visited there for some relaxation in their vocations but the best way in my opinion, you can buy a member ship and save your money during your stay at there. Alexis12 (16805)
1280454 2012-07-09 13:31:00 No problem here in Christchurch, they are turning the entire CBD into one giant carpark with excellent direct bus links to all suburbs.. :) fred_fish (15241)
1280455 2012-07-09 21:25:00 Hearing the Auckalnders complain yet you still live there! Meanwhile where I live is littered with Holiday Homes in a Village that is dying and dying to have some the problems you have in Auckland, but then come winter we seem to get most of the Auckland type problems as the less wealthy find enough money for gas for a tank full of gas, then come down to their holiday homes and cause problems by complaining about the lack of things here . They leave and we still get to cop the high rates with a low wage and seasonal work to counter it over the other 8 months of the year . Reliant on those fleeced tourist run out of Auckland .

No Traffic lights, No parking meters, No Rubbish collections, Sky TV as good as a cinama or the local pub, Out door living and Traffic delays caused by a Jafa doing 70ks on an unfamilier road and Jafas trying to do 120 plus on the same single lane roads .

Nope I dont think I want to live in a big suburb when you have that to contend with! Maybe life is not so bad in the Rural parts of NZ?
