1305484 2012-10-07 08:45:00 Pressing and holding the alt and f10 keys during boot up should do it.

Sorry but alt F10 does nothing.

Any others have an idea?

I'm off to be, will check back in the morning

1305486 2012-10-07 08:58:00 To access the recovery partition on your Acer computer for recovery, follow the steps listed below.

1. Power on the computer
2. At the white ACER BIOS screen, hold the Alt key and press the F10 key simultaneously to start Acer eRecovery.
3. Once eRecovery has loaded, click Restore to Factory Default Settings
4. Click OK to continue
5. From here, the eRecovery process will update all the data on the C: drive and restore a fully functional factory image (approximately 10 minutes).
6. Once eRecovery has run, press OK to reboot unit

If the Recovery Partition is also stuffed up, then as mentioned before you may need to re-install from a USB drive with Windows install on it.

Sometimes when they drop the image onto the drives theres a problem. "IF" This is whats happened then the recovery could also be no good.

Trouble is if its a Starter edition, you would have to make a "universal" DVD first, AFAIK theres no downloads (legally to the public) of W7 Starter ISO's

1305488 2012-10-07 21:10:00 Thank you, to all the responded.

Finally have it up and running.

Have to say, I don't really like it.

Quite slow.

I did a full "factory" reset and installed Firefox.

1305489 2012-10-07 21:32:00 It's a netbook. They are not renowned for being fast, especially since that one has an Atom CPU and only 1GB of RAM.

You might want to try an OS lighter than Windows 7

RAM upgrade would probably help too.

1305490 2012-10-07 22:29:00 RAM upgrade would help, keep in mind though if its the starter edition it can only take a maximum of 2GB. wainuitech (129)
1305491 2012-10-07 22:42:00 Yes I think an OS upgrade, to Linux, be faster.
But how do you update, when it doesn't have a CD?
I have 3 or 4 linux programs, but how do you write them to a memory card?

You could make a bootable usb disk, or buy a portable dvd drive.

1305493 2012-10-07 23:23:00 USB Flash drive can be used for installation, though I typically use a USB DVD drive as then I can use CD\DVDs I already have.

Cheap HDD enclosures often work fine with DVD drives, you don't even need a special one.
