1280722 2012-06-10 23:02:00 Just having a look at the FAQ .

Q . How does the Mars base communicate with Earth

Part of the reply: As communication signals travel at the speed of light, this means that it can take between 3 and 22 minutes for the information to reach the other end . A phone call would not be practical, but there would be no limitations to email, texting or 'WhatsApping' with the Mars residents . It'll just take around 6 minutes for you to get your reply . Both voicemail and video messages are also easily workable options .

( And the "help Desk") Should they send down an "Houston, we have a problem," Amsterdam might not even know about it until 22 minutes later . Even so, we would not be much help: our fastest rocket will be scheduled to arrive six months after the fact .

So nothing changes from todays technology or service :D

From the FAQ's "They will be smart, mentally stable and healthy people. They will learn many new skills in the training period before the mission."

That rules them out from the start ;)

The return trip to Mars would take a long time. Does this mean that you do not want them back in a hurry? :clap

It would if it was.

This plan is for ONE WAY travel only, with a fresh batch going every year or so.

We could tell them that it is part of their free travel perks.

1280729 2012-06-11 07:45:00 Yeah, right !

I can remember when I was a kid that Pan-Am were taking bookings for commercial flights to the moon - they're long gone and the customers are still waiting.

In "2001, a space oddessy" the spaceship to the earth satelite station had the Pan Am logo.
