2002-06-30 03:21:00 | Hello, J ZEP, A rather bleak afternoon will give me the chance to have a play around. Fortunately the other option is to format my letter in Word and just use the *mail* facility in the Word toolbar. Last time I did this, however, I lost a small amount of R.H.script in the email. Probably have to re-set the R.H margin. At least we have the opportunity to send the email to ourselves to see how it may appear to a recipient. But, that doesn't get away from the fact that I had the other option previously and haven't got it now. And the *cut, copy, paste*in edit aint there either, in OE, greyed out. Does XP have the *Mail* option on the toolbar in Word? I will take yours and Susan's suggestion and create one or two standard stationery watermarks, probably the most convenient way to go. Watch this space!! cheers and thanks!! Bill. :D

2002-06-30 05:38:00 | Hi Bill - again - yeah she's pretty bleak up this way to !! However the dogs demand their Sunday stroll so we will soon be out in it - at least its not raining! Yet! Yes XP does have the mail option in the toolbar in Word - but i do prefer to work from O.E in most instances and send from there. My gut or maybe i should call it female intuition tells me that you have not totally lost your copy, cut, paste options in O.E !! Just perhaps when it comes to copy, paste from word like you were using. Other option would be to do a Restore - i know ME has Restore. Or if the prob is in word i think there is a Repair option so that may work - food for thought anyway!

2002-06-30 07:11:00 | J Zep has done a good job advising you Bill, but I'm wondering that when you say that you've lost your cut, copy and paste, is it when you've got some text in your email or when the email window is empty? The icons will only be there (non-greyed out) if there is something highlighted ready to copy or something on the clipboard ready to paste. Also, referring to your problem with the right hand margin of your emails getting sliced up after sending from word, the reason is because OE is set to a certain margin. If you go to Tools|Options|Send|Mail Sending Format|Plain Text Settings you can set the number of characters to wrap the text when sending. You'll have to experiment to get the line length that you want but remember that it's easier to read text when the lines aren't too long.

2002-06-30 07:31:00 | yeah susan i totally agree - i had asked Bill to test that by opening a new mail just as a test and get something and highlight it and then see if he gets Copy,Cut etc.. but apparently not - cause that was exactly what i thought had been going on -( they were greyed cause there was nothing highlighted to work with,) as i explained further up that is how they are without anything highligted? I haven't given up on the prob yet - gotta be something simple !! Susan to be honest i really thought it was just that he had not highlighted anything and that was why they were greyed out as is normal ? Really Really Hoped that was what it was for Bills sake!! | J ZEP (336) | |
2002-06-30 08:32:00 | Hey again Bill - One final test for you !!! How did you get the emoticons in your posts? I presumed you manual put the text in? would that be right ? O.K then next post you do try highlighting the Emoticon letters and symbols etc...(left Click as you know) then try right click and see if copy is there? If so presto click back on your post and position cursor again then right click and see if paste is there? This will explain if it is confined to outlook express or the whole system. Worth a try i think!!! :D Fingers crossed and hope it works!

2002-07-02 04:04:00 | Hello, J ZEP, Susan, Your ongoing help is much appreciated . First I owe you an apology . I really didn't mean to shout at you, the bold script was a typo on my part, I think . I hope it wasn't the system . Now, the c,c &p facility in OE is OK for normal *text* use ie, highlight text and it can be placed wherever, the buttons are "black" . Prob . is if "clip" pictures are pasted to the clipboard in Word, I can't retrieve them in OE . I spent another coupla hours yesterday and again this morning playing around . Funny thing is that on the odd occasion the pic does come through to OE . The infuriating thing is it was all working fine but now for some reason, it aint!! :-( I must confess that I had thought that it may be the ME OS being a little unstable as past users have said, but as I am not really in a position to criticise I'm blaming me! :-( Thanks for that text wrapping solution, Susan, I was not aware of that cure . Now, let's try your "emoticon" suggestion, J ZEP . Ok , works just fine, transferred 1st . symbol to end of para, no probs . :D BTW, does your emoticon window disappear off the bottom of your screen? Mine does and if I try to scroll up, it disappears . And surprise suprise, you'll never guess where it reappears ! On my desktop if I close down every window individually before shutting down ! Is this normal? This is the 3rd attempt I have made to get this reply through . Trying to get the emoticons in text has seen the message being completely wiped . ! Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more . . . (Henry the ??)]:) Bill .

2002-07-02 04:50:00 | Bill The c,c&p commands will only be available if the program allows that operation, else they will be visible only (greyed out) . Your problem will be that something you are doing is *not allowed* more than an error in the system . That it works with text supports this . It is possible that OE will only accept certain types of images and therefore correctly disallows you to do something it cannot handle . If it works occasionally, then the sequence of events you take at the time it works or the file type you are pasting at that time will help you to determine what is going on . Clipart comes in many file formats ( . wmf, . jpg, . bmp, . gif, . pcx etc) I cannot speak with authority though as I do not use OE, I simply do not like it and never have, there are so many better packages around for e-mail (in my opinion) . I use Eudora .

2002-07-02 05:40:00 | Just want to confirm that I agree with godfather that the picture you are trying to paste is probably not in a format compatible with OE. I have just tried it myself with a .wmf picture file from my clip gallery and I am not able to paste it into an OE message. Bitmaps (.bmp), .gif and .jpg files can be pasted and are probably the only ones that can, although there may be one or two more that I don't know about. What you can do is use a graphic program such as Paint, paste your picture in there and save it as a .gif or .jpg file. It will be able to be imported into your email then. Do remember that large picture file sizes are a bad idea in emails - they take too long to send and receive. A large file in my opinion is anything over 100kb but I would advise you to keep the size to under 35kb if possible.

2002-07-02 06:40:00 | Hi Bill :D - I am wrapt that you didn't loose Copy, cut, paste altogether!!! It sounds like my first scenario of trying to find out how to get clipart into O . E!! As i might of mentioned i was told they just weren't compatible and it wasn't possible!! So perhaps Godfather is right it may be down to the format of the Clipart file - However i just tried to do it the Word way myself and all i did was open Word and insert a couple of clipart pics and then cut and presto (as you said) pasted into O . E, was actully easier than the paint way maybe? So i now think it must be down to the format of the Clipart Pic like Godfather said - all it could be !- have you noticed it work with any in particular i . e i tried with animated pics i think - i just looked under the properties of the ones i tried and they were all wmf so they obviously work for me, might pay to check that one out Bill - Hey by the way thanks for heading me in a easier direction for copying than i was using!!! You have helped me out too!! >1 does your emoticon window disappear off the bottom of your screen? Mine does and if I try to scroll up, it disappears . And surprise suprise, you'll never guess where it reappears ! On my desktop if I close down every window individually before shutting down ! Is this normal? Well i haven't had that problem with Emotiocons, they just go down into my taskbar once i click on one to copy and go back into here to paste, (if i don't close the window) however i have got a large 19" screen so i see all of the emoticons with no scroll bar on them - i choose emoticons - copy and paste and then go preview to check all is o . k - if not i go - go back/edit - and check things again or add etc . . . and they are still there, I know there was a glitch in preview that wiped the message out when you previewed - so it sounds a bit like you have that glitch in emoticons? However that glitch in preview was sorted out quite quickly . ;-) Anyway lets hope the answer to the original question may lay in the Clipart file format eh!!!! :-)

2002-07-02 06:52:00 | Susan your post wasn't there when i started mine !!! :8} And i have just about repeated it too!! Sorry - Just shows how long it took me to muck around and try formats etc.. while in the process of posting! :^O :-) Anyway looks like we are on the right track with the format and copying eh albeit that we are all getting different working results :^O wonder what format Bill will have luck with? Different O.S's eh different results - Bills on ME i am XP and if i remember right you (susan) are 98se.
