57923	2002-06-28 03:05:00	I wish to copy document A into document B without losing any of the formatting of document A in the process. Currently, importation of document A results in tab settings, fonts etc being changed - how can I avoid this? (I don't wish to import as an object as this means I can't then edit it!). I'm using Word 97 within Windows98. Thanks for any assistance.	timkelly (708)

57928	2002-06-28 05:56:00	Hi Tim This may be a bit out of left field, but it's worth a try. At the point in Doc B where you wish to insert Doc A, insert a continuous section break <Insert\Break\Continuous> then do a couple of carriage returns and insert a second break as above. Copy the information you want and paste it between the two section breaks. The breaks should isolate it from any formatting that has been set for Doc B and allow the extract to retain its original formatting. I do this from time to time with sucess, but I can't guarantee that your circumstances are the same as mine. If it doesn't work first time, delete the insertion, click between the breaks again and go to page setup. Ensure that all settings for margins & formatting are the same as those for the document you want to insert then try pasting again. Please let us know how you get on. Cheers Billy 8-{)	Billy T (70)

57930	2002-06-30 03:24:00	Hi Tim If you wish to take that approach, I would simply save the document as a text file then copy & paste it into the document that has the formatting you want to preserve. If the insertion point is in the middle of the doc you might have to do it in "before and after" bites. The alternative might be to set up a new doument, use Paste to transfer the wanted format doc and "paste special-unformatted text" to insert the unwanted format. If none of these work, have you considered that your document may be locked for formatting changes? What was the original source? to see if it is locked, save a copy with a different name and try to make formatting changes such as line spacing, indent distance, font type and size etc. I am surprised that the paste into a section break did not work as this is usually a reliable method. Individual sections can be set up quite differently including page orientation, size or margins. Effectively Word allows you to treat the section as if it were a separate document within a document. It sounds to me like there is residual formatting information left in the section you set up. Thinking as I type, how about this: Open a new document using the normal.dot default, create a section or sections within it then paste the two docs separately into it. If none of this works I guess I give up but it might help if you posted details of the formatting characteristics that you are trying to either keep or get rid of. If they are not too complex, unformat the lot and reformat to suit yourself. Cheers Billy 8-{)	Billy T (70)
