57890 2002-06-27 23:16:00 I have a question re Windows "XP" (home).
I have noticed that assorted file names inside various folders have changed from the normal black writing to BLUE writing.
The ones I have noticed (so far) are mainly jpeg and gif images stored, and a few e-mail messages stored in a folder. Not all of the file names in each folder are affected, only some.
Can anybody shed any light on this ??? I am most curious, as I have never seen this before, and am hoping it is not a warning of some impending disaster.
Thanks.

57891 2002-06-28 00:55:00 You are using NTFS as your file system . NTFS allows for certain files to be compressed on the disk . Compressed files have blue file names .

You can turn the colours off by going to Start>Settings>Control Panel>Appearance and Themes>Folder Options Note: If nothing happens when you click Folder Options try closing the Control Panel Window .

Click on the View tab in the Folder Options Window .
Scroll down to the bottmom of the list .
Third entry from the bottom is "Show encrypted or compressed NTFS Files in color" Untick this box to stop the colours from showing .

You can also get to the Folder Options Window by opening any folder, clicking the Tools menu and selecting Folder Options .
