| 58473 | 2002-06-30 00:30:00 | Picked up a second hand computer (Pentium 1 type with 32mb Ram and 2Gb hard drive). The hard drive was wiped. I have attempted to install Windows 95 with a startup disk to then load software etc. The problem is the monitor slips into standby mode within seconds of switching on. Tried the monitor from another computer with the same result. The hard drive appears to be doing something when I insert the startup disk, but without an operating monitor I am unable to see what is happening. | apute (753) | ||

| 58475 | 2002-07-01 01:09:00 | Thanks for the suggestions. I moved the video card to other slots without success, but I noticed the modem that was inside was incorrectly fitted. It looked like someone had taken parts out and hurriedly replaced them. The computer was one of a number being discarded from my wife's office so we are swapping the CPU for another that hasn't been discarded yet. However, thanks very much for the reply. Cheers |

| 58476 | 2002-07-01 01:39:00 | sounds like the pc is not booting at all, hence with no signal to the monitor it then goes into standby. | godfather (25) | ||
