| 58511 | 2002-06-30 07:12:00 | Can someone tell me how to use a Sony Trinitron APPLE monitor on a PC - does one need a crossover cable or somesuch 'conversion' becuase if I recall correctly connecting an APPLE monitor to a PC blows the PC Graphics card... Can someone help and advise where i get such a cable or how to get the conversion done? Thanks Alan |

| 58512 | 2002-06-30 10:05:00 | You will need to find the pin out specifications for that particular monitor, try doing a search on the model number to find the specs. There were some Apple monitors that were directly vga compatible and had 15 pin sub D connectors with the same pin outs. Most had different pin connections and yet others with the larger 15 pin D connector either with a socket at the monitor or with a video cable attached. You can get adapters, a Wellington monitor firm sells them. www.monitor.co.nz |

A vga connector is a high density sub-D and has 3 rows of pins, here are the pinouts for just the first 3 pins: Pin1=Red, Pin2=Green, Pin3=Blue A Mac usually is a larger sub-D connector with 2 rows of pins, these are the first 3: Pin1=Red ground, Pin2=Red, Pin 3=Composite sync. If you can get the specs for your monitor video connector then the above should tell you if it is vga compatible or not. It will probably not, and an adapter will most likely be required. |
