| 58745 | 2002-07-01 05:32:00 | I posted this query last week and apart from Robo who was kind enough to make some suggestions which, unfortunately had no effect, I had no response. The problem is that suddenly, for no apparent reason, I am unable to see files in the right hand pane of Explorer when I select Views: "Details". Files show OK in "List", "small" or "large" icons. This happened once last year when someone on F1 kindly provided me with a keyboard combination that reset Explorer and restored the right pane view under "Details". I am running Windows 98SE. Any suggestions gratefully received. |

It's a bit hard to imagine exactly what you do have and what you want to have. The keyboard shortcut would probably have used the Windows key but I'll have to dig out my notes on the shortcuts to find out if that is correct. Meanwhile, try the view thing. |

Well, I have two panes in the Explorer window - the left contains the folders (directories), and the right the files within the folders. In the right, files, pane I can see the files when 'views' is set to 'list', 'large' or 'small icons' but when I select 'details' the cupboard is bare - there is nothing in the pane at all - it's blank - a regular tabula rasa! I can still access the files through the other view settings, but unlike 'details' I cannot sort by file name, date, size, etcetera by clicking on the column headers. The disappearance of details is mystifying. I have tried dragging and re-sizing the panes. I've just about run out of ideas. |

If the columns have been collapsed to the left of the pane there will be a 5mm wide grey stipe across the top of the pane rather like a horizontal scroll bar. Put your mouse pointer in the top lefthand corner of this grey stripe and 2 verticle lines between opposite pointers should appear, drag the columns to the right to reform them and their contents will appear also. One puzzle remains, and that's how I managed to disappear the columns in the first place. I'll certainly take care in future. Very many thanks - most grateful. Bill |
