Excuuuse me! X-(

I have just achieved 100.91% in GT2. It took me roughly 2 years and no beer!

A lot of racing games are better played in solo and take considerable skill and practice to master.

59092 2002-07-02 02:56:00 $199 for most PS2 games is not quite right, true some can run up to $149, but i think that is the limit at the moment, and with the platinum range coming out you can pick up some great games like Tekken Tag, World Rally Championship and Resident Evil:Code Veronica.

Also, unlike with a PC, the games generally have a lot less bugs in the software, which has been evident with lazy pc programmers, who don't have to check that everything works fine, as they know they can just post a "patch" on the internet to fix the problem later. Also the console genre is devoted purely for games (as well as DVD movies on PS2), so cost less than pc and tend to be easier to run the game, just "plug and play".

Not a fair comment. It is the SAME game companies involved in many cases - can you say EA?. The difference with consoles is that eveything is a known quantity. There is no variation in hardware or software to support and hence bug test for. Period.

That doesn't mean the games don't have bugs, just that there is nothing in there that will crash the game or platform (since that is easy to test for). But there will remain flaws in gameplay. At least on a PC you've got a chance of these being fixed.

I wouldn't try to argue that games on a PC is not a more trouble-filled proposition. It goes with the territory. One of the reasons game companies love consoles is because they don't cause problems and support nightmares for them, and who can blame them for that. But don't think that console programmers are somehow a better class of programmer than those who design for PC.

59094 2002-07-02 04:25:00 Oh, Bruce . Why am I not surprised?

Yes, I know the PC has it's place .

But on the other hand, I just had my daughter load a CD onto my wife's PC and install it on C drive when it was already installed elsewhere . There is about 9Mb free on C and I have to uninstall it, reinstall it, and figure out how to patch up the holes in the wall where I crucified my daughter when I found out (she also insists that the power switch removes the need to shut down the PC properly) .

Don't get that on PS2 .

I have both, and use both, but for those that can't handle maintaining a PC (or don't want to, like me), the PS2 is a wonderfully low stress answer .

The PC is not the easy option, it isn't the cheap option, but it is an option .

59095 2002-07-02 05:31:00 Ya well, I didn't say it was easy. But I didn't by the line that a PS2 is a better game platfrom, cause it all comes down to what you want from your platform.

Besides, your mother dresses you funny ....

59096 2002-07-02 05:36:00 Love it, love it . . . . . love an animated dialogue .

Personally, I would rather have a PC for gaming . As Bruce say's, you have far more control over your actions with the PC variant . . . . . . .

Having said that, would love a PS2 for my kids to use . If only cause I can spend longer on the computer

59097 2002-07-02 05:41:00 Yeah well, if a certain company was to slip me their latest console I wouldn't say no, you know what I mean? But if it comes down to spending my money, for me - with the types of games I like and the mods/hacks/addons I like to install to expand the games - the PC is where I'd have to (and do) spend my money.

I mean gee - I just downloaded about 50Mb of Ghost Recon mods - missions, weapon add-ons, a few new levels. Forget about enjoying a game like GR on a console, let alone having user-created mods available for it on a platform like that.

59098 2002-07-02 06:15:00 I find some game genres work better on a certain platform than other. Car racing - console; Flight sim - PC; platform (earthworm jim)- console; FPS - PC; adventure (eg Myst) either; skate - PC; Snowboard - console; strategy - PC; see, it's all about preferences. But then again, imagine trying to play Flight Sim 2002 on a playstation... Elwin Way (229)
59099 2002-07-02 06:43:00 Imagine running it on a PII 400. robo (205)
59100 2002-07-02 06:56:00 I've run it on my PI266 with 32Mb ram laptop (no 3dcard)

Actually I shouldn't say I ran it, more like I walked it...
