59233 2002-07-02 08:48:00 I am having intermittent downtime with my Cable modem. Telstra-clear blame paradise, paradise blame telstra-clear that is if they answer they phone at all. The problem is that the Cable modem itself resets, and goes through it's "power cycle" for up to 20 minutes before i have my connection back. It has done it 3 times so far tonight alone.
The help desk staffer at telstra eventually admitted that i had a problem, and that i should "keep an eye on it" and "we might have to do something about that unit" With telstra-cable the modem itself is of course hired, and property of telstra, and therefore their problem.
What i wish to do is find a programme to log my downtime. I will then e-mail the logs to telstra, and if they don't come through, i will post the logs for all to see.

Any suggestions????

59234 2002-07-02 10:21:00 You could always set up an FTP server for us and see how long we keep leeching off you.

Something DU Meter may also be able to do it http://www.dumeter.com/ i think is the correct address.

But i must say that it is rather nice to see you complaining about your connection for a change :p

As for Paradise blaming Telstra -->> They are the same company for chrissake.

Yeah i knew someone would say that.

It's crapped out since the last post as well. Telstra/clear/paradises help desk has a lot to be desired. It reminds me of the couple who ran a pub i once had to negotiate with. She would say, "i'll ask hubby, and get back to you". He would say...( go on guess!!!)
Quite frankly i find it insulting particularly as each part of the same organization says go check it out with the other people who don't answer the phone calls for ½ an hour either
i'll post the success, or lack of that i have with Telstra-clear-paradise-whatever_they_are_this_week. And hope that this is a shortlived problem.

59236 2002-07-02 12:41:00 Hey Chris.............

Don't know how this would apply to your situation, but when I was with xtra for jetstart I used to lose my connection then the router spent ages trying to reconnect.....................

xtra blamed dynalink...............
dynalink blamed xtra................

xtra suggested updating the firmware "oh it's a well known issue, blah, blah"=="dynalink sent us a notice about it"

dynalink suggested changing isp's......."we never sent any notices out"

any way to cut a long story short I updated the firmware, didn't fix the problem...................

so I rang telecom stating "I don't give a flying who's damn problem it is just fix it"

the guy at telecom made an adjustment at their end to compensate for extra line noise............suddenly the problem was solved.............no more dropping off and no more logon issues...........

don't know if it will help in your situation but it's one scenario to investigate
