2002-07-03 14:09:00 | Hi Chris, I've cut and paste this from: www.pacs-portal.co.uk It reads: MSGSRV32.exe msgsrv32.exe Windows 32-bit VxD Message Server. For more information on its function and why it's needed, see here. Note - why some people have it listed in start-up programs I don't know but I was asked to include it here. It automatically runs in the background. Hope that helps. :)

2002-07-03 22:49:00 | Your solution will probably lie here: support.microsoft.com If you have ACPI enabled or have a palm pilot cradle connected this is a known event. Probably ACPI in your case?

2002-07-03 23:26:00 | This programme is there aparantly to store the "instant " messages before they get sent out from MSN messenger. If it is in the start up group it doesn't need to be. To find it in the REAL start up group go to Start > run > type "msconfig" > start up tab, and untick the programme. It will not be started then unless you have a program that actually uses it running. While you are there you might find that ½ your list is rubbish, use the www.pacs-portal.co.uk link listed above and check it out, you might find that your computer is starts to fly!

2002-07-03 23:52:00 | Explanation of acpi can be found below www.acpi.info As you have not told the forum yet what operating system (Win 95, 98, 98 SE, ME, XP) nobody can be any more specific. ACPI can be BIOS related so you need to disclose what type of PC you are using. (HP, Compaq, Dell PC company, etc etc and its model number) Then you may get more targeted advice, its crystal ball territory otherwise...

2002-07-04 01:36:00 | The file msgsrv32: "Msgsrv32 . exe is a program (Windows 32-bit message server) that performs several background functions necessary for Windows operation . These functions include: Load installable Windows drivers at startup and unload them at shutdown Run the shell program (usually Explorer . exe) and re-run the shell if it fails to respond Mediate Plug and Play messages among various parts of the operating system Coordinate automatic responses to Setup programs . This includes checking whether a Setup program has improperly overwritten Windows files, and optionally restoring the Windows versions of those files Display the initial logon dialog box if networking is enabled Play the system startup and shutdown sounds" So problems with any of these (as an example if the file used for the windows shutdown music is corrupted) will cause a similar error . Its not necessarily an error with msgsrv32 itself but could relate to one of the many many tasks it's performing at the time . Your advise on w98 is good, but "inhouse computers" has no meaning, its possibly a locally built unit, therefore could be anything . Does it give the error everytime, has it always done it, did it start after you loaded a program or game?
