60044 2002-07-05 05:48:00 Hi,
I recently bought a new PC (from the PC Company) with a 56K modem. Every time I connect to the web I get kicked off after about an hour. When I try to reconnect I get knocked off after only minutes.
At first I assumed it was my ISP (Paradise) causing the disconnections, but four things make me wonder if the problem is actually at my end:
1. If I re-start my PC after being kicked off the first time then I get another hour or so of surfing before it happens again (rather than a few minutes).
2. I have the same ISP as I used on my previous PC and I never had problems with disconnections then.
3. I tried using someone else's connection through a different ISP (Xtra) on my machine and exactly the same thing happened.
4. At the times I've had problems Paradise said there were no problems with the network.
Are there any settings I should be looking at on my PC or does it sound like it is a problem at the ISP end - (although it would presumably be something both Paradise and Xtra are doing in that case)?
Thanks in advance for any help!!

60045 2002-07-05 06:08:00 sounds like poor phone lines. join the club. if you are rural i would suggest getting a hardware modem as the ones normally with pc comp are winmodems which are troublesome on poor lines.

there are also various strings (commands) to help the modem connect better.

60046 2004-04-03 22:33:00 I recently got a new pc from Quay Computers in Wellington...exactly same thing has happened to me. My pc keeps on disconnecting every few mins of connecting onto the Internet, sometimes upto 5 times...drives me crazy...it even disconnects when I download a long email.

I tried unplugging the digital fax to see if that made a difference and it has made a slight difference....I have come to the conclusion that it is the modem that is the trouble as I had a previous pc and had no problems what so ever with connecting to the internet.....

60047 2004-04-03 22:50:00 Has it always had this problem right from when you first connected with this computer or has it started since.
What is your location, are you in central Wellington
Do you have Sky Digital in the home.
Disconnect everything from the phone line, all phones etc to see if it still happens
Is your mail program set to disconnect after send/receive
Have you done a virus scan, Netsky can cause frequent disconnects
What operating system amd modem type, extra settings for the modem might help.
