I'm running JK2 on XP Pro, and found it to be VERY cpu/gpu intensive, and needed to set graphics detail etc. to low/normal to get anything to display properly. Read some tests on JK2 refresh rates and displays, and it seems you practically need the best of the best PC to run with all the settings on high. Mike. |

| 59875 | 2002-07-05 10:58:00 | thanks mike, i've got a pentium3 1.0GH, 128mb Intel Chipset card, Avance 97 Sound card, i know this type of pc is meant for office work, it used to work fine with jk2 on win me before i upgraded to win xp pro. thanks for ur solution, i'll try it now. | vk_dre (195) | ||
| 59876 | 2002-07-05 21:21:00 | I think a few people have posted that xp needs at 256mb ram to run correctly. Could also look at hardware compatibility sites to see if everything you have will work with xp. Also what type of graphics card are you running might help some other people come up with more options. |

| 59877 | 2002-07-07 03:18:00 | Go to 98 SEC edition, XP is well known to need excessive resources 256 megs of ram etc even with a good graphics card it slows down fps in games ME isnt very good too buggy and slow compared to 98 properly set up . Dont install excess of programs if you want speed | kiwibeat (304) | ||

Your system sounds fine for running JK2 - 128mb should be fine, although I have a feeling that the Avance 97 sound is onboard rather than a seperate sound card - this might cause you some slow down issues, as your CPU will have to process this as well. I've never had a problem with ME, yet constantly hear people saying that ME is too buggy, but never have I heard a reasonable explaination as to why people think this, except that they'd heard heaps of other people say so. Just a vicious rumour if you ask me. Mike. |

| 59880 | 2002-07-09 11:25:00 | sorry for replying so late mike, i tried as u suggested but still to no avail, it still chug a long and is very hard to manuvere. any more ideas? | vk_dre (195) | ||
| 59881 | 2002-07-09 12:23:00 | Referring ME to 98sec edition I run both so can tell you from experience that ME is far less stable and is slower uses more memory and it wind back facility sucks I disabled it and use GoBack on both PCs. Admitly i did not do a clean install it was a upgrade from 98 sec whicjh in retrospect I consider a downgrade ME was rushed out as a marketing exercise to herald the new mellenium its lack of dos capabilities and excessive use of resources is well documented as are its bugginess . Mind you 98sec is high maintainence as well you really have to sweep out all the debris that accumulates over time in it but it is fast and good for gaming and doesnt need lots of memory or a super fast cpu like XP does or reactivation if you alter any hardware . |
