60025 2002-07-05 02:26:00 Almost without "fail", whenever I boot up - my pc freezes up, no mouse movement at all, no reaction to cntrl-alt-del, so I have to press the reset button, then after this - it's ok~?! Boot up twice and it's ok.. 1st time and it's a freeze!?! Win 98 (old P166 ) ok ok stop laughing.. just give me a fix!
many thanks,
oh before I go.. one more minor annoyance.. again.. when I boot up, the "wav balance" in the sound control is always Muted - can't find any way to change it - I'm thinking it's been happening ever since I installed the RealOne, but don't see anything in it's preferences to alter, and I don't have it starting up automatically - although having said that - "RNDAL.EXE" DOES seem to find it's way into active processes regardless of me removing "TKBELLEXE" from the programs that start up with Windows-- how can I get some control over RealOne, and presumable - then get control over the mute or notMute the Wav Balance?
Stuart.

60026 2002-07-05 07:14:00 Does your computer have the correct date and time when it does come up? If not, the battery on the motherboard might be dead. It should complain about the battery being low, or about a "checksum error" in the BIOS CMOS memory. Graham L (2)
60027 2002-07-07 03:25:00 Do a scan with norton 2002 or Fix-It also run ad-aware thru it to check for spyware etc I use PestPatrol myself also use GoBack so I am protected against all but a fatal Hard drive system error happy to help further tennisplayer43@hotmail.com kiwibeat (304)
60028 2002-07-09 16:00:00 I'll do a double check on those suggestions... though I havn't noticed anything wrong with the time.. mm.. maybe I should double check the date! but yep.. the battery has occurred to me too.. it's never been changed and the pc IS getting on for about 5years old~~
As for virus and spyware - I do routinely run Norton antivirus and AdAware, perhaps I'll run them again real soon,
This morning it all happened agian.. as @#%! always, but this time when I went to reboot.. .. it really fell apart, files missing, no system disk(as if it was looking for a floppy boot up) and suggested in the end that I reinstall windows~~!! almost sounds like a drive failing,, anyway as always when it gets this bad I (thankfully) have "c" drive fully backed up by Norton Ghost - I do a "reinstall" from that.. and it's all ok again.. til the next time, as for my thoughts on a failing drive - scandisk doesnt find any bad sectors, so I really don't know, it's well overdue for a ful upgrade or replacement.. but theres always something else got the priorities for the $$'s.

60029 2002-07-10 04:40:00 I suppose it's possible for the time to keep going, though I'd expect it to drop out before the stored setup options are lost. But the fact that it can't find the disks then (after it's had a fix of electricity) will boot on the reset, makes me suspect the battery. Is it an AT power supply (which is off when it's off) or an ATX (which is still on when it's off)?

It could be the rubber chicken, though. ]:)

60030 2002-07-10 14:56:00 yep..Power is off when it's off :)

I'm thinking along the same lines... when u think about it getting things right after a few minutes and a second boot up, I'lll see about taking it in for a battery replacement - no doubt after almost 5 years - no matter what -it's likely to need it - even if it isnt the root of the problem, but might be a good chance it IS.
