60251 2002-07-06 04:32:00 Hi Guys

My kids have a CD_ROM based game which requires to be played in Dos, but there does not appear to be a driver for the CD-ROM when the computer is in Dos mode. Is there any way I can get the system to load a suitable driver at start-up? The machine is running Win 98 SE.

Your help would be much appreciated.

60252 2002-07-06 04:44:00 There is a very clever package called CD God which might help you. look at www.computers.pcc.edu .

That makes a bootable floppy, and you can pick a driver. Let the kids boot to DOS from the floppy. That way they can't zap your HD.

60253 2002-07-06 04:52:00 Yes Graham have used CDGod good stuff.

If you didn't want to do that why not just create a Win98(se) boot diskette yourself.

Click START | SETTINGS | CONTROL PANEL

In Control Panel click Add/Remove Programs

Select the option to create a Startup Disk and follow the instructions.
When complete make the diskette READONLY by sliding the little tab UP.

Now you can boot your pc to DOS mode from this diskette. Could also come in handy for trouble shooting or in an emergency.

Cheers, Babe.

60254 2002-07-06 05:46:00 Thanks Graham and Babe. The game loads fine when booting up from a boot diskette, but with no sound. Is there a way to load the sound at the same time?

Thanks
Willie

60255 2002-07-06 05:54:00 Ok Wicked Willie,

Do you know which soundcard or general type it is...

You'll need to modify the Config.Sys and Autoexec.Bat files somewhat but it can be made to work.

Babe.

The sound is AC97 PCI audio on the motherboard which is an Epox EP-3VBM. Hope you can advise.

Thanks
Willie
