60149 2002-07-05 20:47:00 Which is best - High Colour 16 bit or True Colour 32 bit.
Whats the difference ?????????
Running Win 98, Geforce2 mx/mx400 Graphics, Pentium 4 1600 - all standard setups - no tweaks.

60150 2002-07-05 21:18:00 Hi. The diffs is the potential max number of colours that will be displayed - True is best, but normally you won't notice the difference. Greg S (201)
60151 2002-07-05 21:26:00 The difference is colour depth. 16bit is 65,536 colours vs 24bit 16,777,216 colours - 24bit has better colour definition in other words. 24 bit takes up approximately twice the adapter memory but is negligible by todays standards - about 1MB 16bit vs 2MB 24bit on 800x600 res or 2MB vs 4MB on 1024x768. The higher the resolution+colour depth the more resources taken. parry (27)

what?? notice big difference in pic quality. but the drawback is games will be slower unless you set them to 16bit. some games will use desktop settings so if games are suddenly going slower fps then switch it back to 16. otherwise crank it up to 32 and enjoy :)

60153 2002-07-06 23:25:00 Hi All - Thanks for your replys - got the idea
Another point Tweak'e said - FPS - how can I tell my FPS or is this a stupid question.

60154 2002-07-06 23:48:00 it depends on what games you play. or you can run various bench marks such quake3 3dmarks etc.

therer is a tool called FRAPS which can tell you the fps in a lot of games.
