60379 2002-07-07 11:47:00 i'm still trying to find how to set up the webspace...
free domain names at www.tk
i already got one, works OK, email side of the freedomain is crap, but pointing something.tk at a orcon hosted space seems a good idea

60380 2002-07-07 12:54:00 The Orcon email is a good free POP account.

To sign up for the free space at Orcon. You need to first sign up to the community. From there you can sign up for the webspace and email.

60382 2002-07-07 22:14:00 Hey guys why don't you all check out Liquid2k (http://www.liquid2k.com)

They have free webhosting with 20MB of space, e-mail and best of all absolutely no advertising.

They host my website, visit it at Computer Links (liquid2k.com)

I choose personally to display the Liquid2k animated .gif on my site to let other people know about there service.

60383 2002-07-07 22:43:00 To those successfully using "orcon" free hosting

What is the default index page s'posed to be called? i uploaded index.htm, index.html but to make the page work i have to type pugwash.orcon.net.nz/index.htm rather than plain old pugwash.orcon.net.nz to see the page. Seems a little odd

60384 2002-07-07 22:57:00 Mine is index.htm
It works without referring to the index.

try www.auditor.orcon.net.nz

Its only a play site so don't flame me! Never looked at web site programming before, its a learning tool

60385 2002-07-07 23:17:00 Godfather,

HA ha , the classic stuff-up
"index.html" was in the folder form their end, i just saw it an assumed i had put it there........
i deleted it leaving only index.htm and its away!

60386 2002-07-08 00:22:00 Yes, index.htm is their "welcome" bit, I just overwrote it (once I had figured that file loaded automatically)

Hows your cable modem?
My Alcatel ADSL router is fine...

60387 2002-07-08 00:43:00 Godfather,

It's almost lunchtime, and i had constant connection all day, so far, woohoo!
If you want to see how ridiculous it's got, click the wee yellow button in the middle of this page here (homepages.ihug.co.nz) for a downtime and comment log.
Last night it was down as much as up, i got much better connection out of the slingshot/dial up machine on the test bench behind me. At least telstra have acknowledged that there is a problem. they even promised to do something about it.......waiting....waiting.....waiting.......yawn .......

I cant get DSL on telstra lines.. and i dont want to change my phone number, so i'm stuck with the battle. Anyway, untill this glitch happened, my casual comments on life on cable attracted jealous flaming, atleast that will stop!

Anyway, back to the original topic, the orcon page seems great, the speed that i can upload is better than ihugs webserver, where the original site lives.. the page works well, loads fast, the right price.....
If this is any indication of how well these people work as an ISP, i would definitly consider them if i have to resort to dial up again.

60388 2002-07-08 02:09:00 Just had a look at your Orcon site Chris.

It seemed to take away the whole point of having *ad free* hosting.
