60733 2002-07-08 05:45:00 Hi...

My mate has connected a second monitor to his laptop (using the RGB connection at the back) and has dual monitor support enabled. He now wants to turn dual monitor support OFF so that both the laptop screen and the monitor have identical output. I have played around with the display settings, and also tried removing the second monitor from hardware settings (it returns upon reboot) and also disabling the second monitor in the hardware settings, but to no avail.

All ideas appreciated.

60734 2002-07-08 06:48:00 All laptops I have ever had were dual monitor capable. They are usually keyboard toggled between modes.

Pity we don't know what sort of laptop, or someone could advise you what the keystrokes are....

60736 2002-07-08 22:26:00 It is most likely to be Fn + F5 (assuming it has a Function Fn Key)
The screen logo is normally printed above the F5 Key??

60738 2002-07-09 05:44:00 Lindsay - bear in mind you are trying to disable and then enable two completely different (but similar sounding) items!

1/ "Multiple Display Support" is Windows and Graphics card dependent, and lets you spread one "desktop" over two monitors . To dis-able, try looking at Control Panel\Display\Settings . May see a tick box saying "Extend my windows desktop onto this monitor . . . " . Untick box and generally fool around in this section (maybe try unplugging the monitor and re-booting) . After you are sure of this . . .

2/ "External Monitor Support" is a Laptop feature allowing the computer screen's normal display to be duplicated on another Monitor or Projector . Sometimes needs the Ext . Monitor to be connected/powered before booting the laptop . Can generally be toggled thru Internal/External/Both via function keys (often marked on the keys if you look closely) . Many laptops have their own Hardware section in the Control Panel with settings affecting the External Monitor port, and can often find a "software" manual lurking on the Start bar (maybe under Progams) .

Good luck!
