They did look at the yabb software as well as phpBB and others. If you were around in the old forums all that much you would have seen some threads about suggestions for the new software. They chose this software for quite a few different reasons. One of which is the platform that it runs on. |

All the posts are stored in a MySQL database so backups are easy an they don't get corrupted very easily. The MySQL/PHP version is also very very fast (When compared to the perl version) |

How do you know it is not scalable? What do you mean there are too many posts? |

| 60583 | 2002-07-10 05:47:00 | To Susan B, well no I don't play a Team Sport, (Glory by association but not any particular effort) For my exercise I prefer solo and group MTB rides where everyone take their turn equally in front while the others rest in the draft. But, I'm also on my sons Soccer team committee, and school swimming pool committee, neither of which socialize that much, apart from the meetings themselves. From what I have seen at Rugby, Soccer, Squash & Motorcycle club socials over the years, its a great source of marraige disharmony/breakups, drunk driving convictions. Still stick with my assertion, that there are too many off topics on this Site. Cheers....John. |

I have to go through 4 or 5 pages of posts just to find the post I'm looking for. Now think of more people using PressF1 - It will be even harder to find the post your more interested in (Yes, I could keep bookmarks and all the rubbish but I don't have to with other forums) To best fix this with the current forum software, I would suggest splitting the whole forum into a number of different topics - You don't need off-topic stuff getting in the way of important questions. |

Also in your profile it is possible to adjust the amount of posts/threads per page. I also recommend viewing in flat mode as this means that the most recent post in a thread is at the end of the thread. |

| 60587 | 2002-07-10 09:42:00 | Hi Seggy No offence mate, but you'd be a bit of a loser if you have to wade back through that many posts to find what you want. Press F1 has a great search function so if you can remember what the post you want was all about, you can search for it. Strikes me that if you couldn't remember what a post was about, you wouldn't be looking for it anyway. :D Now! Press F1'ers with the smarts copy the posts they want as soon as they read them then paste them in notebook. Some (like Susan B, maven of the organised brigade) use a cardfile format. Myself, being a somewhat disorganised male, I use Notebook and have a directory called F1-Advice into which I save each clip with an explanatory file name. Takes seconds. Sweatless. :) I just don't understand your problem, however the solution is simple. If Press F1 offends you that badly, just go inhabit the forums that suit you best. We don't mind, honest. :D Heck, we probably won't even miss you! Cheers Billy 8-{) |
