60610 2002-07-07 13:42:00 I have a friend who after working away on a document in MSWord, had a crash and had to restart his computer . Now every time they open MS word, the said document appears and will not close . Also if he tries to open a new document it just reopens the same document. We deleted the original file , but a second copy still appears called Document 1. I have searched to try and find this file to delete it also but are unable to find it .
hope some one has some ideas for us

Pete

60611 2002-07-07 21:38:00 Look for a template called "normal.dot" and delete it.

Its location will depend on your operating system, which you do not mention.

A new default one will be created next time word runs, it holds the default settings (fonts, justification etc)

There may be several instances of it, delete them all

DO NOT try and delete them from within Word as it will probably not allow you to.

Use Start - Find to locate it, enabling search in system files.

It sounds like the document has been saved as a template
