The page I wanted didn't appear, but instead of the usual IE kiss-off, this little epistle appeared. Seems the Webmaster is a fan of the Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Universe!

Enjoy :) :D :^O

Cheers

Hello.

This is Speedcorp.net's server.
I was unable to find the document you requested!
I searched the directory,
Nothing helped.
I'm really depressed about this.
You see, I'm just a web server...
-- here I am, brain the size of the universe,
trying to serve you a simple web page,
and then it doesn't even exist!
Where does that leave me?!
I mean, I don't even know you.
How should I know what you wanted from me?
Man, I'm so depressed I could just cry.
And then where would we be, I ask you?
It's not pretty when a web server cries.
And where do you get off telling me what to show anyway?
I'm so depressed...
I mean, I'm gonna be obsolete in what, two weeks anyway?
What kind of a life is that?
I'm really sorry to burden you with all this,
I mean, it's not your job to listen to my problems,
and I guess it is my job to go and fetch web pages for you.
I'm so sorry.
Believe me!
Maybe I could interest you in another page?
Two weeks of information overload,
and then *pffftt*, consigned to the trash._
What kind of a life is that?
Now, please let me sulk alone.
I'm so depressed._

60498 2002-07-07 07:02:00 Forgot to mention, to add to the effect the server types it out quite slowly, line by line. You have to wait a while to read the whole message and only 5 or 6 lines are visible at any time.

Tickled me, and I don't get a lot of tickling these days.

Cheers

60499 2002-07-07 07:17:00 Yeah, well, of course... what do you get if you multiply six by nine? Heather P (163)
60500 2002-07-07 07:25:00 um...54 Sam H (525)
60501 2002-07-07 08:30:00 Yeah, I stumbled on this one quite a while back, thought it should be made the standard "page not found" response. :^O cadifan (286)
60502 2002-07-07 08:40:00 Well, you would have to give them full marks for originality or doing something different. ;-) Susan B (19)

60505 2002-07-07 11:32:00 No one has spotted Sam's error?

The answer is, of course, 42
Heather P (163)
60506 2002-07-07 11:43:00 Of couse it's 42 . Shame on Sam for getting it wrong . Why did he assume base 10, when we all knew it was base 13

For the literal-minded and those unfamiliar with terms like "base thirteen," this is a number system in which the number 10 is equivalent to our more familiar decimal 13 .

A base-13 number 42, therefore, is the same as four 13s plus 2, or decimal 54 . So "six by nine" (six times nine) or decimal 54 is, in base 13, 42 . For the mystically inclined, 42 in base 13 is the same as 110110 in binary (base 2) .
