| 60485 | 2002-07-07 06:19:00 | Shutdown OK last night, this morning it comes up - Scandisk on starting (not shutdown correctly) after 3-4 minutes, Win98 started up, splash screen in colour, the dark except for 1 pixel visible on bottom right of screen. Shutdown hungup on Win98 is shutting down. Waited 10 min then switched off. Since then I get no further the the Shutdown screen which appears 2 seconds or so after enterring the BIOS password on starting the PC, No hard drive activity, nothing except the Shutdown splash screen. | 60486 | 2002-07-08 03:25:00 | I'm no expert but have used pressing F8 during the POST to get into Safe Mode and ran maintenance from there when things start to go haywire and touch wood still steaming along. You could doing a 'Thorough' scandisk though takes about half an hour. Win98SE. | mark c (247) | ||

| 60489 | 2002-07-08 09:33:00 | Solved. Some how, sleep mode was activated, and would not waken, leaving it in suspend mode. The fix was to switch off, then disconnect the battery, wait a few minutes, then reinstall, and start again. Thanks to those who offered suggestions. John. |
