60957 2002-07-09 06:04:00 So now it seems that my PC doesn't want to load anymore? I had Xp running for a month or two without too many hassles, then installed game. Didn't work and wouldn't boot so tried re installing from CD then tried win98se(which its working mostly), tried fdisk when it was FAT tried NTFS fresh installs. I can't understand it? So tried fixmbr which it said it was corrupt! If I try loading XP blue screen with fatal errors.

Duron 750mhz, 512 DDR 40gb seagate.

For some reason I think its the hard drive., Originally it was SD ram but changed to DDR after way XP installed with no problems, Should I try putting it back to SD or not?

Thanks for any tips.

60958 2002-07-09 09:18:00 Well Scotty

Reading the story so far, I think the only way to clear up the problem is to reformat and reinstall. It doesn't sound like you can reliably recover from the mess you have at present any other way.

I'd stick with FAT32 as well, it doesn't use as much disk space and runs faster because of the lack of NTFS security loads.

Cheers

60959 2002-07-09 12:42:00 Run Seagates hdd diagnostic utility,to see if your hdd is ok.
You can download it off there website.

60960 2002-07-15 08:47:00 OK sounds good, I'll try the diagnostic, I have formatted and reinstalled with both FAT & NTFS with blue screen errors popping up at some stage into it. I think its HDD related (and its recently new)?

Cheers,

reason for delay - been boarding....

60962 2002-07-15 21:48:00 Seagate said nothing wrong so reformatted in FAT and installed, going alright so far, haven't updated video driver yet - NVidia Ge4 MX440, so hopefully it will remain stable.

Cheers
