60899 2002-07-09 08:23:00 I found out the problem with my microphone was a flat battery. I brought a new one (well I pinched it from my hubbies remote control) and I am back in business/ Suson.B (862)
60900 2002-07-09 08:28:00 so far I have done all that should be done as per both of your instructions- I have gone back in ad nauseum- no results.
Yes I have win 98SE and I am assured this is as good as any - certainly in terms of finance- and it is not the end of the world if I can't win-it is just that it shows as an option, -my contact down th eline can send- - and that is it. I would just like to master it

60901 2002-07-09 08:41:00 Effie C, this is a long shot, but do you run a firewall (like sygate or zonealarm?)
These could affct the ability to send audio in some circumstances.

Also if you are connected via a router (ADSL router on Jetstream etc) it could affect it.

If you are on ordinary dial-up, then only the firewall needs to be considered. If you have one, turn it off, so it does not run on booting, and reboot, try it then.

Nothing wrong with 98SE Effie, its very very good. Just a while since I used it.

60902 2002-07-09 08:45:00 Not much point in that GF. It would be intolerable. Plus as mentioned earlier, she already knows the mixer settings are "working" as she can record & playback satisfactorily.

My experience is in win 95/98se, with recording in MusicMatch & sound forge from various inputs. Also have used several "talking" programs like Paltalk, Beecall, Hearme, Wimba. I can assure you that the mixer settings as outlined are recommended. I cannot say for msn.

Susan, glad to learn you've got the mic working. Just a little puzzelled that your mic needs a battery. Most "pc" mics dont, they are activated by a small DC voltage from the sound card connection. Never mind, if it works thats the thing.
Cheers..

60903 2002-07-09 09:06:00 Of couse feedback would be intolerable! "You may have to mute some later as the other poster points out, to avoid feedback" was in my post, the point being if it worked (with feedback and all) then muting the mike in playback would be the least of the worries. Its a test after all.

Your comment may be construed by Effie as applying to the firewall test (a search of Google showed that as a prevalent cause)

Bazza, we've got a schoolboy on the loose impersonating everyone on the forum at the moment. That wasn't my post - just compare the number of posts to mine and you'll know what I mean...

I'd just like to ask Effie if she has been into the MSN Tools settings and done the Audio wizard?

60905 2002-07-10 00:45:00 Yes Susan B, I sure have - even when playing e mail chess with someone - who tried the "talks/peech on msn and vice versa,
I have been into and tried and errored(?) each of those settings in case I had been misinformed-
In the sound slides area- everthing in the "mute" boxes is not ticked - in properties I re checked and found no fault- remember this was set up on Sunday evening by the schoolboy/ uni graduate from way back- I can see the test graph, and my voice is in the yellow of the bar graph on the wizard's area.- so I can hear myself loud and clear- I just cannot get it to "go outside to say you!!!!"
still need "HELP"

60906 2002-07-10 04:01:00 Godfather--- I just re read your reoly of 7.40 odd pm about zonealarms-Now! I have this and it is on my"allow connect and "allow server" - now! a telecom friend had said that the "pass lock column boxes" applied only to Norton's 2002 & Outlook express and a tick had to be put into these in the " pass lock column " - should that also apply to msn messenger re voice in and out?
Some time ago before the era of zonealarm - I could hear slightly and see the bar graph move when my contact talked- no longer- is the above the reason?
effie C (772)
60907 2002-07-10 04:50:00 The configuration of a firewall for tasks such as voice messaging gets too complex for me to comment on, so my original remark applies, disable it from starting and reboot without it to test .

If you had to run without it only while on msn its no big deal, you still have nortons for virus protection, and its the quickest test anyway .

60908 2002-09-09 22:27:00 Hi, yes I have done tha "wizard" - everything works as it should do - I can hear my voice recorded - I can tap my mic and see the bar graph jump up and down- but to get all those attributes to go outside this house- not a show!
By the way my pseudonym makes me a female( not so the last time I looked- if you ennunciate the syllables of effie c slowly then you will see a slightly different explanation
Please don't let this admission spoil what is badly neeeded advice
