60917 2002-07-09 02:55:00 I have a 1.6 P4, with 256Mb DDR ram running Win2000 Pro that is having problems. The machine locks up regularly with no response to any command and with the cursor locked too.
I’ve check for over heating with a motherboard monitor and the CPU never gets to more than 29 degrees and I can find no conflicting hardware or software.

At a loss what to do next???

Help

60918 2002-07-09 06:08:00 There are lots of possible causes,
First is there any application that you think is specifically causing the problem? Such as listening to audio, playing games, connected to the internet.
Or is there anything that you have installed recently?

Next is do you notice anything unusual before or after the freezes?
and are there any error messages coming up before or after the freezes?

Check the error reports to see what is coming up before or after a freeze,
I'm running XP and I have no experience with win2000 so I'm not to sure how to check the error reporting in win2000. Some one else is bound to know though.

I had a problem with unexplainable freezing lately and it turned out to be a conflict between XP and the onboard sound.

60919 2002-07-09 06:47:00 Thanks for the reply .

The freezing occurs at any time and in any app . A few new apps have recently been installed and none are either exempt or cause an increase in freezing .

Nothing unusual occurs before the freeze and no error messages are shown .

Is there are generic error log for Win2000 and where would it be?

Cheers
