1306541 2012-10-12 07:57:00 Hey

Did a restart on my computer (had it running for ages and haven't shut it down for quite a while), then it started installing about 30 updates. After that happened, my sound won't work. Running Windows 7 32bit with an AMD Athlon Dual Core 6000 processor. I have to sound cards coming up under the Device Manager, ATI HDMI Audio and NVIDIA HDMI AUDIO DEVICE.

Can anyone help me fix this audio problem? If you need anymore information (which you probably would) please ask.

Thanks.

1306542 2012-10-12 08:35:00 What motherboard do you have? Try installing the drivers for it, they might have unintalled.

AND/OR Go into Control panel --> hardware & sound --> Sound then (I forget where it is and my sound setup is different) you'll have to poke around to find out but you want to try and find the option to play test tones for that sound output device. Just to make sure that everything else is working.

1306543 2012-10-12 08:39:00 Yeah, already installed the drivers and they didn't work rice_risotto (16917)
1306544 2012-10-12 09:05:00 See if the Windows update site will detect the need for another update. They may have a diagnosis and correction for the situation they've created.

On the other hand, my own system on odd occasions fails to start with sound. A reboot fixes it.

Thanks,. i'll give the windows update a try.

I've rebooted about 3 times so far and that hasn't resolved the issue :(

1306546 2012-10-12 09:41:00 What sound device do you have. The Nvidia HDMI Audio drivers have been installed with the new Nvidia Graphics card drivers thats if you have a Nvidia based graphics card. So as I have already mentioned what sound device do you have and what graphics do you have. What I would do if you have a Nvidia based graphics card I would go to Nvidias sight and download the latest from them and do a custom install which allows you to select what you want to install, but don't select the Nvidia HDMI audio drivers.

1306547 2012-10-12 10:23:00 As The Error Guy posted before look in in the control panel / Sound / Playback Tab, check to make sure the correct device is selected as the default. wainuitech (129)
1306548 2012-10-12 18:51:00 While the issue is probably drivers / hardware, it is also worth checking that your Master volume control is not muted. Paul.Cov (425)
1306549 2012-10-13 02:30:00 Tried all these things and nothing has worked. Would a total reformat fix the problem? rice_risotto (16917)

Have you tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the drivers? Just in case they didn't install properly.
