1306477 2012-10-11 23:24:00 My computer (ASUS K53S series) has three usb ports, two usb 2's and a usb 3. Often, my usb 3 port won't work - it won't detect a device I plug into it. Its done this with plenty of different devices/usb sticks, so its not just having an issue with the one device. Other times it works perfectly. Am I looking at a dodgy usb port here? Any other possible things causing this?

Cheers

1306478 2012-10-11 23:30:00 I wouldn't know what the problem is here. But if you want to access them, see if they show up in disk management, right click on your flash drive (in disk management) then open/explore. Could be a dodgy USB port. If the flash dirve's do not show up in disk management, well it's a bad USB port. ChazTheGeek (16619)
1306479 2012-10-11 23:42:00 Just tried that thanks. Tried it four times and the results are
was detected normally and everything was fine - 2
didn't show up in my computer but showed in disk management - 1
just didn't show - 1.

1306480 2012-10-11 23:52:00 Had that happen a few times. Plugging something into a USB3 port and it didn't work, USB2 ports, not a problem, this is on several PC's, different devices. Seems some devices dont/wont work to good on USB3 ports. wainuitech (129)

My one has had issues with USB3 drives as well. That normal?

1306482 2012-10-12 03:03:00 Maybe there's a flaw in the USB3 connector design. I've also been noticing one of my two front USB 3.0 ports has been flakey lately, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes it stops working while something is plugged in. I've been meaning to take the side of and check the connections. I also have an Asus board.

annoying too, it's the one I usually plug my USB 3.0 flash drive into.

1306483 2012-10-12 05:53:00 Windows or Suse, Nick? Or both? KarameaDave (15222)
1306484 2012-10-12 06:40:00 If it's both I'd start looking at hardware... Unless you're really unlucky. icow (15313)

I've only had that problem in windows now that I think about it. Have only used that port a few times while using Suse though.

Just tried to trigger it in Suse by plugging in several different flash sticks. 10 straight successes, no failure so far.
