1282670 2012-06-19 00:13:00 As a child of the pre-internet age I find myself increasingly out of step with modern times and realize my concept of good manners differs from current standards. Hence I have a question regarding net etiquette. I have recently set up a Flickr page and have received one or two complementary comments regarding some of my photos from strangers. Is it practice to acknowledge these with a return e-mail? Similarly if invited to be a contact with a fellow flickrite is anything more than pressing the confirm button required? tutaenui (1724)
1282671 2012-06-19 00:29:00 As A child of the pre internet age you were brought up correctly by your parents, unlike the crentious beings that are raised today (myself included)

As far as the net goes you are able to respond with a quiet thanks if you wish. Nothing is compulsory. Some people reply to all comments but those who get thousands of views/comments generally ignore them. There is no obligation as such to respond. As with anyone, choose you friends wisely. Only add a friend if you deem them acceptable and trustworthy.

1282672 2012-06-19 00:59:00 I use Google Picassa for my pictures and never make my albums public, they can be viewed only by people I have sent the link to. I prefer it this way so that I don't get random stuff from people I don't know, and this is also why i refuse to join facebook. I simply don't wan to keep getting emails from Facebook saying somebody commented on your comment about somebody else's comment 2 years ago gary67 (56)
1282673 2012-06-19 01:28:00 Good manners and etiquette are never out of place anywhere. I do however think, that not replying to a comment on a photo is quite acceptable these days. I have a Flickr account and someone recently asked if he could use one of my pics of an old church I took once. I was quite surprised that he did actually ask me! Good manners on his part.

You can also set it up so only certain people can see or even find you if doing a search.

As for reply's, as mentioned , you dont have to if you dont want.

I don't know....I'm a child of the pre-internet age. I think I'm fairly cretinous too.....it just comes with practice on the net.

1282677 2012-06-19 01:49:00 I have got a Facebook account. Recently Facebook changed things around and altered the way I had things set up. Every time a friend makes even a minor change to their Facebook page I get an email telling me about the change that they have made. Most of the time I cannot be bothered to look at these changes let alone reply. Most rude of me, I guess. :groan: Bobh (5192)

Oldfriends.co.nz and LinkedIn do that too - it's a PITA...

1282679 2012-06-19 02:16:00 Oldfriends.co.nz and LinkedIn do that too - it's a PITA... I do get the same emails from Oldfriends. I find these emails less obtrusive than emails received from Facebook. I do check up on the changes friends have made to Oldfriend's pages. Bobh (5192)
