1282401	2012-06-18 07:45:00	Winston Peters is quite right! I know two old Chinese couples who are not working and just waiting for the pension. A Chinese friend's Mother has a good Chinese pension, she was an accountant, has never worked in New Zealand but draws NZ Super as well. If you were to include all the other spongers doing the same thing it must add up to millions of dollars. I do not include people from Britain and other countries which have a reciprocal agreement with New Zealand. At present people are eligible for Super if they have lived here for 10 years. This should be increased to living & paying Tax in this country for 20 years. I lived and worked here for over 40 years before getting the pension.	mzee (3324)

It is good you mentioned Britain and the reciprocal agreement! Thats should stop the rednecks harping on who do not listen to the full story. Having dealt with my parents pensions I have a good understanding I think of how this was not aimed at British Pensioners living here, basically they get taxed on tax for any pension they claim here.	coldfront (15814)
1282403	2012-06-18 09:28:00	I think Pensions for new immigrants should be means tested, especially where the immigrants have been granted residency on the basis of family reunification. If there is income from any overseas pension fund, then that should adjust the amount payable from NZ Super. Common enough - I receive pensions from Australia and the USA. I let NZ, OZ, and USA sort it out, and in the end I receive my entitlements after taking into account all incomes. If there is no money from a previous foreign residency after means testing, then so what? Welcome to New Zealand and a happy retirement close to your family. And entertainment in the form of Winston harping on. PS To clarify this, I receive my total pension from NZ, and they collect the individual amounts due from OZ and the USA and take care of the accounting, taxation, and exchange issues for me. 1282405	2012-06-18 11:21:00	I agree with Winston Peters that those immigrants' parents should not be entitled to the NZ pensions; but I think he shouldn't have mentioned 'Chinese' in particular as it applies to all other immigrants as well. This implies that he is racist (or, anti-Chinese), at least it is deeply-rooted in (behind) his mind! Why should we tax-payers foot the bill to up-keep those old folks who have never paid any taxes? Yes he was refering to the chinese because they lack such an agreement. Whats you thoughts on the other source of non taxpayer thats taking our work as well? They are refered to as temporary migrants with work visas, most common now days are the Working Holiday Visas!
