| 1282292 | 2012-06-18 00:50:00 | As videotape is on the way out I would like to record some tapes onto DVD. Apart from the space saving DVDs are much easier to use than tapes. Unfortunately, some of the tapes I want to put on DVD have copy protection and so will not allow the record to be activated. Is there a way of bypassing that protection? Your help will be appreciated. Thanks. |

That's the way I do it as well. But if you don't have a D8 or mini DV camcorder maybe one of the analog to USB DVD capture devices out there may be OK.. |

I believe they took out macrovision protection from the signal as part of the enhancement but I've never tried one personally so I couldn't say for sure. Otherwise it might be a case of finding the right capture device, my old tv tuner card never seemed to have a problem with it but I converted all mine many years ago and I no longer have it. Strictly speaking any commercially available capture device should detect macrovision on it's input and prevent copying, that is after all the whole purpose of the scheme. |

The other thing you have got to ask yourself is if you will watch them after putting them onto DVD. I have a cupboard full of VHS recordings going back to the early 80s and thought about putting them onto DVD but decided not to as I probably wouldn't watch them, so really a waste of time in doing so. :) |
