1281531 2012-06-14 00:40:00 Saab sold to Chinese-Swedish investment group - Saab will concentrate on production of electric cars

Bankrupt carmaker Saab has been sold to a Chinese-Swedish investment group which aims to turn the company into a maker of electric vehicles.

Saab's administrator said the buyer was National Electric Vehicle Sweden (Nevs). No sale price was given.

Saab went bankrupt in December, two years after former owner General Motors sold it to Dutch group Spyker.

Saab "will start a new operation" to develop and produce electric cars, the administrator said in a statement.

The administrator said in April that Saab had assets to cover about a third of its debts of 13bn kronor (£1.2bn).

Personally I won't miss Saab at all. Mundane, classless, squeeze boxes with poor quality Euro-plastic that cracks and splits and engines that need constant attention. Buy two - one to drive and one for spare parts. With two, you get egg rolls.

1281538 2012-06-15 00:07:00 Oh yeah - I thought I'd completely forgotten about that piece of junk .

The 100LS required pulling either the engine or the transaxle to replace the front brake rotors and/or calipers .

Then - here's the goodest part - there were no bellhosing alignment dowels to put the transmission in the same plane as the crankshaft when you put it back together .

It required an optical gauge to get it in center again . I had a lot of Audis come in with broken flex plates from shops that did a brake job and then couldn't get the engine-to-tranaxle alignment right .

I had the correct Audi-specific gauge and I could almost name my own price . Big money maker for me!
