1281890 2012-06-16 22:51:00 Correcting someone's spelling is hardly getting personal :)

It happens here all the time.

I was merely trying to point out the difference between "duel" (as in a gun-fight) and "dual" (as in two) - OK??

1281891 2012-06-16 22:55:00 I wouldn't even ride a bike through a roundabout. I would hop off and walk across.
:)

I do it all the time, ride through that is and indicate because most car drivers don't see me most because they are looking the other way

1281892 2012-06-16 22:57:00 I think the speed limit was 75 mph (120kph) back then, I see it was dropped to 60mph (100kph).

Bl**dy narrow roads out in the western counties, but the edge of the road concrete raised edging was a help in keeping one on the straight and narrow, lol.

Lurking.

virtually every road where I grew up and learnt to drive was single lane except the motorways and when in town, I lived in the South East little place called Brabourne

1281893 2012-06-16 23:01:00 Really? From a cyclist?

Well, I do a fair bit of cycling, and motorcycling, and the more information I get from other motorists the better. I apply that to driving my wagon as well.

I generally skirt around them rather then enter the traffic flow, especially if people are exit without indicating.

Bike vs car, Car wins.

Too true. Last week I was actually on a roundabout on my bike when a car just drove straight on to it nearly knocking me off, there was no other traffic and the driver was looking left, local Nelson driver too as I have seen the vehicle before

gary, perhaps that's what it was ! one lane roads, lol, there were a lot of those jaggered white lines too.

We went looking for Tonbridge in Kent and a pen friend there, but as it was getting dark and the town we were passing through was diabolical to get out of, we headed back towards London and our overnight motel.

Folk over there were very friendly and kept giving us the wrong directions, perhaps they all wanted us to stay.

1281897 2012-06-16 23:27:00 There are roundabouts, and then there are roundabouts...like the idiotic ones in Upper Hutt where some are so far over to one side, that 'straight on' is literally straight on. Signalling left when 'exiting', the roundabout shown below, when travelling straight on from left to right in the pic. hardly makes any sense. Terry Porritt (14)
1281898 2012-06-17 00:43:00 Terry, what's that white car in the middle doing ?

The car coming in from the right hand side of pic would still need to know the straight ahead vehicle's intention.

Having done 7 years community watch and meals on wheels, we had to know the rules pretty well as any accidents were our responsibility.

We had a good laugh Saturday coming home from g/son's soccer game.

Top of the "T" turn, 2 cars with right of way and when we turned right the poor bloke also turning right " put his hands up in gesture ", should have stopped beside him and got wife to explain the new rules to him, out of her window.

Old bugger like moi toooo.

Having had a motorcycle myself I know what you mean. The whole idea of using indicators is to let others on the road know what your intentions are and too often I have already deciphered their intentions before they have even used their indicators.:(
