1282164 2012-06-22 21:38:00 The same distribution BS happens with petrol.
Fuel may be refined for sale in Whangarei, but it then gets carried to Auckland, then redistributed from there, with distribution fees set from Auckland, so those north of Auckland pay for the fuel to go south, then pay for it to come back north again.

Bad analogy! Although one you should keep quite from Transpower before they change the pricing method that they charge to the Lines Suppliers who then charge the Electricity retailer and ultimatly you.

1282165 2012-06-23 09:47:00 As well as paying for the units used at the current rate we also used to pay approx $30 a Month, $1 a day, Line Charge here in Christchurch, now that I am with PowerShop we only pay for what we use, no Line Charge thus saving $30/mnth.

Since we got hit by the earthquakes and the house and flat are badly damaged, nobody is living in the flat anymore, we only use the minimum amount of power to charge the car battery and one night light and we are getting charged about $5 a month we use less than one unit a day, no Line Charge because we are with PowerShop, let me send you an invite please, we both will benefit, you get $50 off your first bill and I also get a reduction.

1282166 2012-06-23 09:54:00 Well the line charges are built into the unit price, so you are still paying them indirectly, hence the higher unit price than most other suppliers (depending on plan).
Presumably powershop does a 'bulk deal' with the lines company.

1282167 2012-06-23 10:03:00 Just like the good old days when we had NZED, and managers were paid public service wages, not the Mega$ as now, before Max Bradford fracked it all up.

Alas; we are the mercy of these poofters.

I already have investigated this and the Lines Bill is more complex form our Lovelly TLC than a basic cost per day. Heres a break down of our bill from TLC, no matter what you say powershop will make or be able to do anything about the lines charge! The person in control of the lies charge is me the user or so we though having a load meter installed.

Control Fee $1.58
Metering $4.93
Low Option Network $3.73
kw Load On 0.64kw@31.49 $20.15
Transmission Fee On 0.64kw@6.97 $4.46
Total plus GST $40.08

prompt payment discount 10%

Of course they now offer a option for us to use the formula used to calculate without a load meter and that kw load goes to 1.97kw based on our actually unit consumption another $41.88 (naturally we choose to go by our peak load where a Load meter makes the differance)

Now in July that Low User Option is being removed from this area they claim a mistake made from back in 2005 (its taken 7 years to sus this...something fishy we think) Our bill is going to double as a result!

My parents do not have a load meter and they use slightly more elctricity some how than us and got a load figure of 2.2kw, how this is we have badgered to be investigated and btw Hot water is removed from the calculation for the load apparently.

Nice offer but we know how the Thieving Lieing C@#$S operate and not a thing can do about it.

The Lines Company based in Te Kuiti are the only one in the country with this bizarre system of a seperate lines charge billing. Like I said Meridian charges us 17.15c which is cheap its the Thives at TLC that causes issues.

BUT in saying that I punched our figures through as a Taupo location and found our bill including the lines bill worked out cheaper.

Yep. If you use more than the 'average', powershop will be more expensive, as the LC is built in to every kwh.
Between the "specials" they run frequently, and our log burner for heat & water, we save quite a bit on what we would pay with a fixed LC.

Also, powershop is not available everywhere, so presumably that is to do with them being able to strile a deal with the local line company in each area.

1282171 2012-06-23 23:21:00 No you can't get powershop here in Nelson gary67 (56)
1282172 2012-06-23 23:29:00 On our latest Meridian bill they now seperate the lines charges and power charges. The good thing about our line company is that its owned by the consumers so we get a credit each year of approx $160. Clod (7853)
1282173 2012-06-24 00:04:00 All of these separate charges, lines and useage etc are just away of charging more.
